Coulter and Ivens get two games

Postby am Bays » Wed Apr 11, 2007 9:22 am

Admitedly it was the Thursday day before the game 1 but two games for three hour dinking session between end of training thursday and 12:00 midnight last thursday when the pubs shut at Midnight for Good Friday?

One would have thought the one game and a private censure behind closed doors at Menzies Cres would have dealt with this nicely.....but two games, fine and Ivens stripped of his DVC???

Anyone else get the feeling a sledge hammer has been used to smash a peanut on this one???

IMHO Westies did it better on this occasion for two similar, blokes were dropped for ill-discipline, no further comment, everything kept relatively in house.

I also thought the Monday article in the paper was over the top, all about Coulter and and Ivens nothing about Centrals beating North, at least that was all I saw on Adelaide Now. Don't know who was at fault there Doug Robertson, his subby or the person he interviewed.

The article below for those who haven't seen it.

I am truly staggered by the penalties. Unless there is more to it than we are told, has the potential to cause a real rift amongst both supporters and players.

Guys,

Wether there is anything more to this story or not. I am thinking the boys have gone out and had a good night and someone has seen them and let the club know.

I think it is a disgrace the way the club has handled it. I don't know the boys, but surely, two good mates who are celebrating a marriage can head out and have a few drinks.

Does everyone regard the SANFL as high as AFL, cos this is the way its going with fines and penalties stripping of captaincy.

Surely if any player rocks up to training and the game 100% fit and ready to pay, it shouldn't matter what they do.

Furthermore, I agree that it should have been dealt with in house. If they broke a team rule by heading out, then don't tell the world about it, and just punish them so they don't so it again, not make fools of them.

I think the way this has been handled was all wrong from the start!

Oh the irony!

I wonder if any selected passages detailling boys will be boys/harmless fun incidents from "Jarman Magic" will be hi-lighted and stuck up on the notice board @ the North change rooms?

Night in a lock up anyone?

Dring Driving perhaps?

Also i wonder whether the fitness and discipline rules apply to the coaching panel as well?

tassie...usually the monday article focuses on an issue or two arising from the game or something like that while sundays article is a review of the game itself....true, those two didnt play in the game but that seems the tack doug has gone this time....i sometimes find it annoying when the monday article doesnt mention my team etc....just another tightening of the screws due to afl coverage i reckon.

I think that has been strenuously denied by that person Borat, if you and I are thinking of the same person.

FWIW I would be very surprised if that was the case, not something I thought that prominant poster on this site would ever do, i.e dob on his own.

Knowing Coulter from his time at Central quite well when he goes out on the piss it normally ends up very very messy. I can guarenteee this is not the first time in his SANFL career he has missed games due to clubs disciplining him for alcohol related issues.

This was the main contributor to him leaving Central. The club felt he was a major factor to Quinno Graham's off field problems he was having around the time. Something had to give and the club felt Graham had more to offer on-field therefore the club didn't interfere in Coulter's negoiations with the Roosters.

I think most Central supporters are surprised how long it has taken for this to rise again and in a way feel that North is more hampered by Luke Ivens been involved, reportedly one of the most dedicated footballers in the SANFL.

Hopefully Ivens and Coulter don't strike up a partnership like Quinno and Joshy once had, they were absolute nutters.

It smacks of there being more to it than just the Thursday night incident .... maybe some warnings have been given and ignored and the club feels the guys just aren't getting the hint?

rumours are from a reliable source is that the boys were out having a couple of quiet ones and were home well before midnight.

I hear the rules are that players are not allowed out during the week.

This begs the question, was the penalty too harsh. I would have to say yes.

In house discipline should prevail with the boys not playing for a week. But Jars and the media has completely blown it out of proportion!

Being a roosters fan, I am pretty dissapointed in how North have handle it compaired with West.

Not sure if anyone agrees??

i think the penalty was a little over the top given he was getting married in the very near future, and wanted to have a few bevvies to celebrate it.

i mean there is a former glenelg player who moved to norwood who used to be out drinking at 6am on a saturday morning before a game!!!
