boundary umpire adam cleary was stretchered after a leg injury when relaying the ball back to the centre at noarlunga yesterday the first report was he had dislocated his knee cap & later it was a broken leg, so i'll stick to 'a leg injury' as i dont know

my question is, is it a first ? as i can not ever remember an umpire being stretchered off, going off yes but not stretchered off

i am presuming he step on the side of one of the sprinkler covers (or whatever they are called)

If so, this could be very expensive for the SANFL.
I remember Troy Burton getting cleaned up in a SANFL final: lots of blood, but I think he walked off. Good umpire, Troy. Where'd he disappear to?

Wouldn't be the first time. Saw a goal umpire go arse up many years ago.

Wanted to do the same thing myself. early 90's. Jumped the fence on the siren I was so wild. Big burly cop says who you after mate, I pointed the white maggot out. Cop says and mate he deserves it but if you hit him I will lock you up. Good cop (obviously a bloods man) and that single sentence calmed me down.

Adam has broken BOTH bones in his lower left leg and will be in plaster for 6-8 weeks. It may be nearly 12 months before he can run fully again.

When i saw umpire stretchered off I thought about time someone Stitched up Richard Williams. Then i read about the poor boundary umpire and i thought poor bloke best of luck and hope to see him umpire again.

I remember a couple of years ago a boundary ump was strecthered off in the reserves of a Centrals v Norwood game due to heat exhaustion (it was a 38 degree day and the heat policy was in place that day), so certainly not the first time.

thanks for that, but my question & i apologise for not making it clear, is that a first in league footy ? obviously it has happened in the sanfl as you've let us know but has it happened during a league game ?
