R4: Port v Glenelg Review

Cant be bothered doing my normal style review this week as im wet, have captured a cold and am supposed to be going out tonight.

I must applaud every single person that made it out to Glenelg oval today. Brave, loyal supporters of their clubs indeed. Great work everybody! Pseudo - we'll have that beer next time mate!

RESERVES:

Glenelg won quite comfortably. 7 unanswered goals in the 2nd term will do that. Played well. First half was played in moderate drizzle. Second half was mostly played in pretty heavy rain.

Port reserves continue to dissapoint. Maybe a change of coach is in order. They have the talent available, they just cannot put it together for long periods and every week an opponent will get a pretty big run on which we cant halt.

TOm Holmes played pretty well for the Bays, as did Bradley, Lewis, Sugars and Graham. For the Pies, Brad Ebert had a ripper in his first game, Hargraves kicked 5 out of 7 and Levi Greenwood again was very good.

SENIORS:

Glenelg won a hard fought battle by 7 points. Was an old fashioned slog, including puddles across the oval and an old fashioned bog heap in the middle.

Neither side played great footy, hard to in those conditions but Glenelg did enough to win. Port were terrible. We would have kicked it out on the full at least 20 times. Stupid football. There was a period of play where about 6 kicks in a row of ours went OOF. Awful.

Port started better and had a 8-10 point lead during the second quarter. Then we stopped. Glenelg kicked 3 consecutive goals over about 40 minutes which ended up beinga match winning turn around. Clive kicked one with about 10 minutes left which put the margin back under a kick but Glenelg goaled straight after to seal it once again.

Once Glenelg hit the front they were never going to lose. Ports forward line was non existant all day. Clive had a stinker, LeCras couldnt get a kick. Without Jezza we had no smarts crumbing up forward and no clean skills out of the middle. He would have made a big difference today.

I thought the game was ridiculously over umpired to the point of being farcical. Its raining, theres a foot deep of water in the middle of the ground, its slippery, dont pay stupid soft free kicks when players are gonna be sliding everywhere. Id love to hear from Ecky but there must have been close to 80 free kicks today. They should have just let it go. Both clubs benefited from some ridiculous frees.

I dunno, despite the closeness of the result it wasnt a thrilling match in anyway. There were long periods where the ball seemed to be stuck in the middle third of the ground and neither club could get a clear attack forward. It was a big struggle to get a goal today. Hell, it was a struggle and a surprise when someone took a mark! Both defences played pretty well today.

Glenelgs best was Ben Moore. Loved it and was the catalyst of their attacking third quarter. Kirkby, Rudolph, Murphy and Boak all had their moments as well. Fisher did ok.

Werent many winners for Port out there. Our forwards were shutdown, our midfield was quite poor. Biacsi, De Pasquale and Perry played well. Lees and Poulton did ok. Not much else.

Well done to Glenelg. Good win. Looks like another year of inconsistency for the Pies.

LAST YEAR WE needed a dry ground to expoit our pace and we had that in the first 2 games and nothing, the DROUGHT has ENDED and so has the BAYS LOSING STREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was quite interesting the centre square the umpires threw it up closer to the outer wing line but the players on the wing would have been right under the ruckmens taps!

obviously not much between the 2 teams today, it was obviously a hard day for talls & forwards although i thought cranston played well, i think the main difference was the discipline i think glenelg were more disciplined than port & yes mal jajourer was reported for striking mouse he did make contact & will probably get a game or two best for glenelg in my opinion was rudolph who is improving every week, boak, kane, panozzo but i think everyone that was their would admit that all players from both teams put in & had a go

Woohoo! Hargs kicked 5 in the ressies today, if he was in North's league team today we would have won.
Congrats Hargs, he'll try his guts out for any club at any time it just goes to show what sort of character he has.

He has a lot to say Hargy. Went out at 1/4 time and 3/4 time and you'd think he was the coach!

Not a bad thing. Good for the younger guys in the reserves to have someone like that around to learn from.

without this trying to sound nasty if he actually kicked straight he would've kicked 8 to 10 goals, it would not suprise me that he could be in the league side very very shortly as he presented all day
