now at the Bay oval today, in the final quarter on the members wing a glenelg player kicked the ball which went really high and over the line but the wind blew it back into the arms of Lukey Panozz but when the ball was it its highest it was over the line the boundary umpire blew his whistle to call out on the full.

surely its only out on the full if the ball lands over the line??? :? :? :? :?

I think that would be out on the full. So you are saying if a bloke kicks the ball through the sticks but it blows it back into play it's not a goal? Or if a player marks the ball and the ball is over the line but his feet are inside the ground, that is out on the full again isn't it? I think that's the correct decision.

that was right in front of me...very weird...agree with the decision, although dont know the formal ruling, in soccer if you kick a corner and it goes out but curves back in it is still out...

The ball has to go completely over the line, not touch something which is out of play,
which is the rule in basketball & american football.
Good call by the blind mice.

I should ask though has he come off his line and the fieldy called play on before he kicks it???

if that's the case it should be a throw in if the boundary umpire knows the laws...

This actually happened earlier this season in the AFL (can't remember the match).
Outcome was that the player took his kick again. WTF?

If a player runs along the boundary, and in the motion of running holds the ball over the line, it is out, regardless of where his feet are, and vice versa, sometimes a player will be outside of play, but will hold the ball inside the field of play, it is in, regardless of where his feet are. So in other words, there is an imaginary line which extends upward from the boundary, if the ball passes over it, it is out, unlike other sports like basketball, where the players can do all sorts of acrobatics to prevent the ball, or their feet landing outside of play, to keep the ball "in".

Umpire made the correct decision.

Are you sure???

Not according to law 16.5 Disposal from out of bounds - Laws of Australian Football 2007

16.5.1 (b) (iii) Not bringing the ball into play in accordance with 16.5.1 (a) [ball kicked kicked, handballed or moved in one direction i.e. over the line of the mark - player can not move of the line of his kick (played on)] then the ball shall be deemed to be out of bounds and the boundary umpire shall throw the ball back into play at the spot where the original mark or free kick took place.
