ABC TV coverage

Postby SimonH » Fri May 04, 2007 4:02 pm

As far as I can tell, it looks like the games scheduled to start at 2:15pm are the allocated ABC broadcast games.

This means that they'll be covering North v Sturt in round 6, Eagles v Sturt in round 7, North v Central in round 8 and they haven't decided who in round 9 and subsequently (still all listed at 2:00pm). Unlike in previous years, the ABC don't seem to want to tell us in advance who they're covering (or, actually, tell us anything at all).

Fixturing means that Norwood will be waiting until round 10 at the earliest, to break their cherry in TV coverage this year! Played a few night games, fair enough-- but they're not showing 'em when they are playing Satdy arvos, including a game vs Port which is (regardless of ladder positions) always a jewel-in-the-crown game for the SANFL. Bearing in mind the 2 games in the Anzac Day round, the ABC will be covering 24 H&A games across 48 teams this year. So on a mathematical division, the average would be 5 games with the odd side getting 6.

I'm not after exact parity, but: fair suck of the sav, ump!

(In case you were wondering: no, I'm not a couch potato. I'm geographically challenged, and was hoping the wonders of digital TV would save me from a Legs sahara.)

Until 2003 the Queens Birthday match was on TV; then that got the arse.

And the Adelaide Cup match was shown on TV, too.

Having had a look at the next few weeks schedule it doesn't appear that the ABC know that Norwood exist. As SimonH says most teams should get at least five games, we've had exactly none to this point.

Someone's living in the past. Port v Norwood jewell in the crown? North Central get more against TV coverage, 1 v 3 and possible grand final opponents. There's the jewell in the crown of the SANFL of the new century.

Norwood won't be televised until at least round 13, but will definitely be in round 14 as the only Saturday game. Meanwhile, Port are on ABC three of the next four weeks. The only week they're not, they have the bye.

Next four rounds confirmed:

Round 9 - Port v North
Round 10 - West v South
Round 11 - Sturt v Port
Round 12 - Port v Glenelg

Following four rounds:

Round 13 - ? (four Sat games)
Round 14 - Norwood v North (only Sat game)
Round 15 - Central v West or Sturt v South
Round 16 - Norwood v South (only Sat game)

They may have achieved better ratings for a Port-Norwood match as most of their supporters seem to be stuck at home going on the crowd figures for last weekend.

Playing lots of games on Friday nights would not augur in the 'legs favour, since the ABC wants a live Saturday arvo match.

I'd like to see the ABC record a Friday night match (at the Parade or otherwise) and replay it in the Saturday arvo timeslot instead of a live game. The it wouldn't discourage anyone from attending the Saturday games.

I'd like to be able to see an ABC telecast of a Friday night game at The Parade.
