Early season predictions of the final ladder positions

Postby Grahaml » Mon May 07, 2007 2:23 pm

Anyone willing to hazard a guess at what the ladder will look like at the end of the season?

For me this is what I think it will look like.

Central
Port
Eagles
North
Sturt
South
West
Norwood
Glenelg

Glenelg the team to get closest to central, but I feel they don't have a system to create of their own play. Eagles will win enough games to get top 3, Sturt's early season form will see them fall into the finals. Norwood, West and South fighting for the right to get their fans excited for 2008 by "only just" missing the finals this season. End story? No different this season other than a bit of a position shuffle. Dare say I may be cutting and pasting this post this time next year though, because nothing's changed too much for a while and I can't see it changing any time soon.

Whilst too early to call as I haven't seen all sides, I gotta say I was pretty impressed with what I saw of North last Friday night ... With the players they are likely to get back I think they are leading the charge to challenge the Doggies at this stage.

Think the final 5 will finish as:

Central
North
Port
Eagles
South

Haven't seen the Bays or Bloods yet so not really qualified to have an opinion on them.

If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Stuff being informed about opinions, Connie. Just make a few outlandish statements about teams you haven't even seen, write of a few teams based on one game, rave about your own team (mind you, might be tough to do at the Parade ATM) and watch the fun ensue. That is the way things are done here, aren't they?

Did you put ina prediction before the beginning of the season Graham? It would be interesting to compare that one with the Round 5 version you have just posted. I know that almost everybody had Sturt 8th or 9th. I had them 7th and I think I had them the highest, unless Sturt 1 or MST put in a tip ( I'm pretty sure Sturt Peter didn't) because those guys have been prediciting Sturt to throw off the shackles for months now.
I am not going to put in another ladder prediction, because Sturt is still an unknown quantity IMO. Our early form astounded everybody, and created a few serial stalkers in the process (Dutchy?). But it may be that we just out performed ourselves and just don't have the players to maintain that intensity all season. We still only have three wins on the board, and that is not enough to clear bottom by the season's end, so I think my pre-season prediction of 7th could still very much be on the money.
The Eagles can still rally, the Bays pushed the Dogs, Norwood pasted Sturt, West beat the Eagles... I just don't know what's going to happen, so my pre-season guess is as good as anything I can come up with now.
Except for one thing...Centrals should definitely finish top.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Unfortunately not, TRB. Dare say it would have been this:

Central
Eagles
Port
North
Glenelg
South
Norwood
Sturt
West

Thought west were awful last year (yes, more awful than Sturt). Glenelg would have featured fairly highly due to that good win in round 4 or something over the dogs last year.

LOL (except the Parade quip as that was UNLOL), here we go:

Central
North
Port
Eagles
Souf

Glenelg
Sturt
West
Norwood

Actually think the Legs have a better list and are playing better football than any Wooden Spooner in recent years, but sadly others have the runs on the board that are going to be difficult for us to catch with our draw this season.

I reckon it's tougher predicting now than it was at the start of the season. Only Central have performed as expected IMO - with the rest of the teams either under or over performing at this stage. I'll have a go at a ladder at the end of the minor round - I'm only confident about getting the top 2 positions correct - the rest could be drawn out of a hat at this stage.

Central
North
Port
Eagles
Norwood

Sturt
South
Glenelg
West

agree with you about daylight although it could change.

i do care about finishing 2nd though. Cos if ur in the gf and the other team gets 4 injuries u may just win. also the experience may stand u in good stead the next year.

"Baby on board". Why dont you put a sign on ur car saying "adult on board" or "car stereo in use"?
