Idea for SANFL fund raising

Postby Mr Fuller » Sat May 12, 2007 1:23 pm

Something for the markerters of the SANFL to consider.

I realise that many of the clubs these days are selling naming rights to their ovals e.g. centrals, west etc and the revenue from this goes to the clubs themselves.

A friend of mine the other day was looking through the AFL draw and commented on the fact that it seemed that every second round was devoted to some theme such as 'family round', 'rivalry round', 'ladies round' etc.

It made me wonder whether naming rights for a round could be sold to the corporate world such that a company could bid for the rights to have naming rights for particular rounds. For instance round 8 = West End Round, Round 14 = Villis round

If the SANFL could investigate this it coud be a way to generate extra revenue that could then be pumped back into grass roots footy and benefit all clubs.

This week in the SANFL is 'District Football' round or some such nonsense

I thinks its called a "home match sponsor"

for example at South where we are looking to theme our 10 home games we have

- Perks Hotels sponsoring the Past Players Day v Sturt

- Zest McLaren Vale is sponsoring the Rivalry Round game (AFL free weekend) v North

- Nab is sponsoring "nab auskick day" v Port in July

- City of Onkaparing supporting Community Day in August v West

I reckon most supporters would agree with Phils approach at South - benefits the club who made the effort.

We could dedicate this Saturday night at Hamra Homes Oval...

"Hot Dogs, Cold Pies" round.

Canteen shouldn't need to change the way they served food in round 1 vs North at night.
