for those like mal (that want soft football), they would want the bump/clash that occured between a north player whose name escapes me & the young sturt player johncock banned & reportable, now it was 2 players going for a high ball & johncock got hit FAIRLY FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING & i was a nuetral supporter there, now johncock left the field obviously a bit sore, winded & a little dazed, now not one sturt player remonstrated & the umpire did not give a free kick, so all those on the field thought it was fair & reasonable.

i know if it was an afl game the player would have been cited but at least they in the sanfl are trying to keep it a tough game rather than the ballet`footy the afl throw down our guts

to his (johncocks) credit he returned 10 or so minutes later & was a handy player for sturt

for those that have foxtel, the replay is on tonight (tuesday) on abc2 so have a look & see what you think, for me it was another great body clash in our great game & with no MALice

As soft as the AFL is not even hip and shoulders get reported or frees against them there.
It was side on side, no even close to high and to prove it Johncock suffered a fractured wrist.
Josh Cubillo was the player. Great bump for a young fella, unfortunately for North fans and fortunately for the lad we'll be lucky to see him after this year, big draft prospect IMHO.

Didnt see the incident but noticed Johncock was knocked to the ground. It was just another reason why norf beat us so easily they were harder at the footy, more skilled, smarter and ran their guts out. Well done norf.

Not a bad effort by Cubillo considering he'd be 20 to 30 kilos lighter than Johncock and it was body on body.
The 2 might have been team mates at one stage in the past too, not that that makes a difference as there was no malice in it.

sam, yeah they were both airborn but that is because the ball was higher up so they both were 'flying' trying to get the ball

wedgie, i'm not so sure with what you said re-afl with reports, they one day will report a fair bump & perhaps they already have

Its even legal to bump in junior footy from Years 4 and 5.
Might have been a free kick for Years 2 and 3 though.
We joke about the AFL but they will never get rid of the hip and shoulder bump especially when its side on side and the ball's right there.

Wow, not good for Johncock in his league debut. Can't believe he managed to come back and play. So he'll be out for a while then.

I can, sometimes when you fracture a bone in the lower arm and it doesn't hurt or swell up for a while.
I broke my wrist in the first quarter of a game once, rucked all day, got drunk celebrating a 10 goal win over Morphett Vale only to wake up with a swolen wrist, got an Xray and found out I'd fractured it in the first quarter incident.

are you sure it was from the first quarter ? or was it in the first hour after midnight ?

I actually lined up on the bench the next week as we were short of players but luckily I didn't have to come on.

Ive watched the replay of the game and deduced this

BOG NA= ALLEN ..............will probably win the magarey medal if he plays all year
BOG ST= CRANE..............2nd time i have seen him, he is brilliant
3rd best = CHAMBERS......kicked 3 goals and stood 2-3 players most of the day [but good coaching by Jars as well]

Happened right in front of where we were standing and there certainly was no malice intended. To his credit, as soon as the play was down the other end, Cubillo came over to see Jezza and gave him a pat on the back.
