I expect there's a policy in place regarding how many of the finalists from last season you play. For example it would be pretty rough for West to play Port, Central, Eagles and North 3 times while Glenelg got to play Sturt, South and Norwood twice. The AFL has a rule like that so the SANFl probably does as well.
Would like to know if anyone can come up with an alternate fixture list that doesn't have someweird events like described occuring.

Isn't it that over a 2 year period you play every team 5 times in the minor round? Doesn't matter if you're a finalist or not. I think that is pretty fair. This thread is more to do with why you play a certain team twice before you play some teams for a first time.

For the sake of attendance.
Centrals and South unless they finish in a GF against each other.
should not play each other three times in a season .surely the sanfl could work this out.
they arent going to attract big crowds purely thru location of the clubs.
south vs glenelg
centrals vs north
along with sturt norwood and port should all play each other 3 times every year to max out attendance.

That was my thought too Aerie. I think the current program is reasonable, I am sure there are logistics involved that we aren't fully aware of that cause this to happen. But the SANFL always trot out the 'that's the way it is' line whenever questioned by clubs (as BPBRB stated earlier and as I heard from Centrals after enquiring about our games either side of ANZAC day in '06). Not sure what is wrong with explaining things to a club so that all understand.Aerie wrote:mark ducker wrote:Can i also point out.

If you do this you're following the lead of the AFL and selling out on fairness for the sake of a few extra $$$.

Unless of course they don't give a crap about the SANFL competition...

Not sure about last 5 seasons, but they play each other 3 times this season and played each other twice last season.
