In the paper today the maggies ceo said he wanted Port Norwood back. He said its the best way to maximise crowds. He is correct. I don't think its fair though. My idea is to have a double header of last years grand finalists amd Port Norwood. If Port or Norwood make the gf the year before throw another team in. I think 5000 people is a waste of the opportunity of Anzac Day and somthing could be tried without getting rid of the tradition of the previous years grand finalists. With my modelI think 10000 is very realistic.

If one of Port and Norwood get into the Grand Final, what would happen then? Do they go for Port/Norwood still or have the Grand Finallists play off and the other team play say Sturt or whoever?

Anzac Day double headers worked in the 80's

No way, has to be last years Grand Finalist. We don't need another Essendon v Collingwood, where the game is blown way out of proportion.

That was the first team off the top of my head...

If it makes you feel better I thought of Sturt, then North, then Central. But Central is likely to be in the GF anyway.

But I agree with md, Pseudo and Bruce as well.

If Port or Norwood could guarantee at least a crowd of 15,000+ every year, then I'm not fussed if they have rights to ANZAC Day. If not, and I doubt they'd get more than 10,000, then it really isn't worth changing our tradition of rewarding the previous year's grand finalists.

I don't mind the idea of a double header game as I think all the hype that surrounds the Essendon vs Collingwood game has greatly effected our day with many people staying home to watch the AFL on tv. A second game starting at 6:30 could attract a decent crowd.

6:30pm - Port vs Norwood (should either of these teams defy 21st century history and actually make a GF, don't have the double header)

Of course, the SANFL and its clubs will never get a huge crowd unless they really promote ANZAC Day. The promotion of the game this year was nearly non-existent.

Pathetic suggestion by the clueless richardson, he should try get his struggling club to actually make a grand final and earn the right.

Perhaps etheton should play a double header at adelaide oval. Join with port power at their potential new ground ....this will help port power actually pull a crowd, and just maybe half fill the oval.

What about a compromise - if neither Port nor Norwood played in the previous GF then they can be the curtain raiser to the GF rematch. A double header should draw a big crowd.

highest attendance at footy park sturt vs port
highest attendance for minor round sturt vs glenelg (fathers day match at footy park 76 or 77)
highest attendance for dbl header - sturt v port & north v centrals 1988, round 19 ? 38000 people saw the best minor round game ever. Wedgie even stated that the crowd emptied to about 7000 after the 1st game had finished to quote a neutral point of view.

With due respect, all those quotes are from over 20 years ago. How is Sturt's supporter base today? Over and above other teams?
