Eagles replica guernsey

Postby Aerie » Sun Jun 03, 2007 12:47 am

From the Eagles website....

West Torrens Heritage Game - Thebarton Oval

The Eagles will be wearing a replica 1970's West Torrens guernsey against Norwood on Saturday 9 June. These guernseys will be auctioned off on eBay after the game. Go to http://www.ebay.com.au and search under West Torrens. Happy Bidding!!

Please note that this game is an Eagles home match and Eagles home match tickets will gain you entry into the ground.

Nice looking jumper but the outline of the Eagle should be in black to make it stand out a bit more IMO? I'd be interested to hear if any Eagles fans agree?

I still like the old Torrens jumper with the Big Eagle right across the chest.

Great guernsey except for the fake laces (I have a thing about that).
I'd make a bid but Im saving my coins up for a Candy Stripe North top later this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our 87 premiership.
On a similar tangent great to see Peter Bennett in the outer today at Alberton. :D

Why do so many clubs insist on putting "tacky" fake laces on their heritage guernseys?

Other than that it's a good looking strip though, but would look much better minus the printed laces and sponsers logo.

Perhaps that's how the Eagles logo was? I agree with the Eagle on the chest being the best Torrens guernsey. Similar to the one the Eagles currently wear when we're not playing seemingly every team except North or Port!!! They wore that one last year at Thebby against Glenelg. Last year they opened up the clubrooms at the back of the stand and held presentations there. Hopefully will again.

When I see the guernsey above I think of Rocky Robert running around with his motorbike helmet at Thebby.
Did they change back to the sash when Kerley came on board?

Yes, I think you're right. That was the only guernsey I remember seeing from West Torrens (being born in '81). Not sure why they ever got rid of the Eagle on the chest?

The Eagles logo (on the guernseys) wasn't around in 1974-76. I don't think any of the clubs had logos on the guernseys then. Nor or course was the SANFL logo on any, either.

And if it's the exact way they'll turn out, the stripes should be a bit narrower I think. I could be wrong, but.

A great looking guernsey, spoilt by the necessity of having the sponsors product being way too prominent.

I don't get why guernseys these days have to have the maker's name on the outside (whether it be JAX, Canterbury, Nike etc). Do they actually sponsor the club? Are they giving the club 'mates rates' on the uniforms in exchange for plugging their brand? Whatever the reason it's not worth it - It's another unneccessary blight on the team strip IMHO.

From what I hear presentations will be at Thebby after the game.

Great design and it will be good to see the boys run around in a old torrens jumper again. I totally agree with wedgie, get rid of the fake laces it looks pathetic. Too many sponsors logos for my liking as well. Let's make it more like it used to be.

The jumper does look good but I agree the old jumper with the eagle across the front was still the best West Torrens jumper. I'm another one who doesn't like fake laces let Port be the only ones to have them as fake laces just makes their jumper look worse.

The laceups don't bother me to be honest.
In the game itself it's all a blur.

I didn't think I would like the "away" strip of the Eagles this year but in the game, it just looks more like a Warriors guernsey than anything.

I agree. I actually love that jumper, it used to be the eliz eagles jumper (after they had the sash circa 1990). 1991 we started to wear the one with the eagle on it (the eagle was designed by an U14 player at the club :)) and it was so much better looking than a boring sash. It reminds me of the north V, i actually prefer symbols like that than sashes or stripes.
