Online gameday coverage

Postby JAS » Wed Jun 06, 2007 5:00 pm

Hi all

As someone who lives oversaes I would like to make a heartfelt plea to you all. As I understand it RPH currently has server capacity to handle only 25 people downloading their online radio coverage and I would guess that Life FM are in a similar situation. Therefore I want to ask, on behalf of all the overseas and out of state footy fans, that if you can listen on a normal radio or better still go to the game then do and please, please, please free up the online broadcasts for those of us that have no choice. I'm not speaking as a Norwood supporter I'm asking for ALL the supporters. I have watched and sympathised with the valiant efforts of Jimmy and others as they try to obtain scores when they can't listen online.

So give us a break guys and gals and think of the geographically challenged...PLEASE

Regards
JAS

How many other club web-sites do the game-day online scoreboard like North? I use that for North games and mostly it's great for up-to-date scores.

Maybe the North IT guys could lend their services to the others clubs or maybe to the SANFL who could do provide a game-day service for all games?

RPH are dreaming if they think having capacity for only 25 streamers is enough on game-day. Don't want to criticise them I know everything costs $$$$

Dutchy, I do try to log on about an hour before the game but even that's not always successful and there's nothing more bloody frustrating when you have got up at 4am.

I know the stations are trying to improve things and they rely heavily on sponsors and donations etc. Even Psyber has given them a suggestion...think he called it a 'server farm' or something like that (technology - I know nothing :? )

I was just trying to point out the situation to those who may not have been aware and making a request. Since finding out what low capacity they have I for one will no longer log on to other team games just to listen for the very occasional mention of an NFC score. I wouldn't want to think I was stopping one of their supporters from listening to their match.

Jas, didn't even know this. I lived in China for several years and got LIFE FM with few problems, until the 2002 GF when I got transmission in 3 second bursts. But then I'd guess there were more than a few Double Blues supporters trying to pick up scores from overseas that day. At least now we have supporter sites that give updates.
1998 in China there was nothing. It took a gut wrenching phone call to get that result. AFL came over the short wave; not SANFL.

I've listened to 2 RPH games online this year and have had no problems. I don't normally connect until just before the game either.

This week the Central V Sturt game is on Life FM. It will be the first time listening to them and I no longer live with someone with a laptop so I'm going to have to find an Internet Cafe open at 6am or rely on txt messages from my parents.

I've had the same experience living in Victoria, two games, log on just before the game starts, no probs...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
