It's so crazy it might just work!

Does anyone else think this idea has merit? Gotta admit, I really like it, especially in a year when there is no state game.

Was just about to start a thread on the same thing. It's not a bad idea. Would it be Victoria or an All-Stars team? Would be an interesting game and I wouldn't be surprised if the non-South Aussie team won.

Here is Doug Robertson's possible team. Obviously doesn't rate Eagles Victorian recruits in Inkster, McKenzie, Powell, Passador, or Jarrad???

POSSIBLE EX-PAT

VICTORIAN TEAM

F: Younie (North), Chambers (Sturt), C. Gowans (Central).

HF: O'Sullivan (Central), Alleway (North), Lawry (Central).

C: B. Kane (Glenelg), J. Gowans (Central), McCormick (West).

HB: Walsh (West), McGuinness (Norwood), Bailey (Norwood).

B: McGlone (South), Sherwood (Glenelg), Elstone (Port).

R: Cranston (Glenelg), Culpitt (Norwood), Kenna (South).

Int: Perry (Port), LeCras (Port), Allan (North), Dragicevic (West).

I'd make it SA vs everyone else. And I don't really mind barracking against the Gowans. Could be fun.

Dunno.

Kinda reminds me of the 1990 City v Country 'state game.'

And that was a non-event...

In general, fans would love it, clubs wouldn't be particularly fond of the idea though. On that basis it would stuggle to get up, IMO.

Make it as part of the preseason? First game of the season SA vs All the hyped recruits for the upcoming season, plenty of SANFL fans eager to see the new faces and frustrated by another crappy season from the redbacks, plus it would get a good amount of publicity at the best time to get new members signed up. I would have thought there would be less chance for serious injuries that early, before they start going really hard and it would give the playersa chance to recover from any soft tissue injuries picked up. We wouldn't have any form from players, but I don't think that would be any worry. We'll know fairly well what the local lads can do, and if we try to put in all the new recruits expected to line up in the new season we can fit the best ex-pats already here around them.
