Round 11 - North vs Eagles @ Prospect

These clubs have developed a bit of a rivalry in recent years. With players switching clubs and some close Finals matches in the last two years there should be plenty of feeling at Prospect on Sunday. Both teams put in their worst performance of the season last week and sit precariously mid-table, very much needing a win to keep in touch with the top 3.
Both teams have important players waiting on the all clear from the doctor to take their place in this match. Cicolella, McKenzie, Inkster, Gill and Motlop are all match winners, but will they be risked?
Both teams also have some youngsters who will play a key role. Salter, Hier, Wundke and Gallman all take up key positions down the spine. Which will lift their game matched against quality in Alleway, Gill or Passador?
The team which is more desperate in the midfield should win the match. It is pretty hard to split the skill level of either team. The loser faces the reality they may not be as good as they thought - which makes this match a must win.

i will definitely stay up satdy night for this game. should be good.
also, i will add, while the loser of this game will be disappointed, its not going to be the end of the world, both teams are quality so the loser shouldnt feel that its all over.

Without getting into player matchups, a quick glance at the table might indicate these two sides are pretty well matched.
However, prior to last week, North's only two losses were both to Centrals by only 42 and 35 points (the Eagles lost by 82 to Centrals whose wins average around 50 points.) North have clobbered West and Port (the Eagles have lost to both by 4 and 52 points respectively) and overcame an improving Norwood on their home patch. In the Eagles favour, they've dined on South twice (North drew - 22 shots to 17 - in the wet) and did beat Glenelg.
Notably, without those two South games, the Eagles have won 2 out of 6 at under 44%.
I'm tipping North to win this one well.

Tough one to call, but barring any major personnel changes (for either side) I'm tipping North also .. They will be keen to remove a bit of the "wood"* the Eagles have had on them in recent times and I think they can do it if they play to their capabilities.
The opportunity exists though for the Eagles to re-find their form here and if they can emerge victorious, I think it will mark the round that we see them commence their climb back to their customary position.

Famous last words - I think even the bay's fans tipped North last monday and look what happened. North has a reasonable history of late (last 4 years at least), playing a shocker and then winning well the next week but most of the shockers however have been against either Centrals or the Eagles so I would not be the least suprised if North got done easily this week simply based on the Eagles record against us.
But if North want to regain any sort of respect then I would sincerley hope that they come out and at least give 100 percent from the start to finish and at least if we lose having a dip then so be it. The side on paper is good enough no doubt but if they come out with the same skill set and attitude they had Monday then we will get flogged regardless of how indifferent the Eagles recent form has been.

Good to see Inkster and Cicolella back in the side finally. Unfortunate to lose McKenzie - hopefully not serious. Once again Vince has been named as an out for the third week in a row, but should play given he is an emergency for the Crows. Interesting to see Lomas shifted to a back pocket and Jarrad to a back flank - the position I think he was used in quite a bit in the pre-season.
Looking at the North side, what worries me is the following three players as goal sneaks - Motlop, Ladhams and Younie. In the past North have been top heavy so this will be a different forward line we have to deal with.

And that ends McKenzies consecutive matches at 79.
Gerrard Bennett is still the current leader in that with 91 consecutive matches - from his debut in Round 1 2003 onwards.

Can't say I'm sorry to see McKenzie as an out from a North point of view. He is one of the most versatile players (if not number 1) in the league. He defends very well and is a nightmare to match up on from the opposition point of view.

What a cracker of a game. Cant pick a winner in this one as both teams can turn it on when ever they want.

For North to lose, that's the only way - an off day. It won't happen twice in a row.

Dunno about that, I still remember it happening 20 times in a row in 2003!
(Yes the win against Port was an off day, we should have won by more)

This years side is vastly superior. And with late changes will usually mean more of the key players that played most or all of last year will be out.
