Fighting at the Footy

I see the Sunday Mail has published a photo and a story about a brawl after the Port v Sturt game. Was a magnificent game of footy (watched it on TV) and obviously a very large crowd.

Most people on this board (presumably) are pro-SANFL and pro-big crowds to games.

Anyone taking a family along yesterday would surely have loved the game, high scoring, high marking, tough but clean footy.

But........... the whole time watching I was expecting to hear of some argy bargy during/after the game as some supporters of both these clubs (and yes all the rest) can't handle their grog (or whatever else is fuelling them) and the passion of the game sets something of.

Presumably they think they are "supporting their team" by showing how tough and brave they are by threatening opposition supporters at the ground.

How many families wont be going to the SANFL again because there was a fracas as they were trying to leave?

How many of these people will be telling their friends/colleagues/other mums at school "what they witnessed at the footy on Saturday, you won't believe it, I was very scared".

I've posted something similar a year or two ago, but i doubt anyone with any intelligence could convince me otherwise that anyone involved in a fracas at the footy should be banned for 10 years.

The individual clubs surely don't want these "types".

Post their membership fees back to them, and in the club newsletter type something like "two club members, one of 12 years, have had their membership fees returned and have been banned from SANFL games. At XYZ club we pride ourselves on our family tradition. We have a zero tolerance to unsocial like behaviour at the football"

Agreed 100% Borat

There is no need in 2007 to be anti-social.

My God....

All supporters from every club should band together as one united team on this subject..!

Hmm not the first time a brawl has happened after an Unley game. Let's see how anyone can tie Centrals in with this one.

Wasn't there an incident after the the end of the last Port / Sturt game at Alberton? Maybe the "baby blues" fans aren't all tweed jackets and chardonnay after all. Seems that Sturt is starting to become a common demnominator in crowd trouble.

How should SANFL patrons deal with this event...?

All unite to combat the evil few...?

That would make good reading...

Supporters of both clubs came to the rescue of the Brawlers.....!

I'm easy.....

Try it at Doggy Land.....

I was at game (just before last quarter) didn't see the fighting but was standing in front of grand stand and heard Sturt's Mr Angry- what a d!ckhead.
Very good crowd and well done to Sturt.

Ban all Port/Sturt games at Unley. That will be the answer.(only joking)
Will KG and the dud talk about this tomorrow night? I doubt it.(no joke)
Its a shame, as it was a great game, and once again to have a game remembered for what happens off the field than on it is a disgrace.

Dunno how it started but it started about 5 minutes from the end of the match. Everyone at the northern end lost interest in the game. Apparently a guy wearing West gear was involved. I only caught the arse end of it where two guys were being heavily wrestled by 3 security guards each. They both ended up heavily pinned down until the cops came. Both got arrested. Pity the feral female abusing everyone didnt get arrested either. She was antagonising everyone when I came along.

I agree with the first post that these people should have their membership revoked. For good. These guys probably arent even members.

Could have easily been. The people that were there and saw it all unfold specifically said West though.

More than likely Bombers stuff as I do know some of the old port diehards still follow them.

Doubt it would be a West supporter, considering it was port/sturt and hey look where we are on the ladder so no grandstanding.

It's all retarded shit. Unfortunately we're not dealing with rocket scientists here.

Shame these idiots are going to spoil what appears to be a great resurgence in the SANFL. On another forum, fools were posting that if people cant handle it they should harden the **** up and stop being sooks. What a load shit. I'm all for the banter but I can understand why you would rather stay home if you've got young kids.

Funny you should mention that. I know a couple of Port supporters who still follow Essendon in the AFL and cant stand Port Power.

The easiest way is for the SANFL to get the fight and put it in all the papers and around the grounds these people are barred from all games for so long etc etc.

Id like to make it known that in that photo, the guy in the black and white check jacket was actually helping security guards break up the fight. He also kept that guy pinned on the ground whilst waiting for police to come.

At least alcohol can't be blamed, $5 for a bloody can of beer at Unley ($4.50 at the Bay and $4.00 at Prospect).
