...Weslo?
Today, an old guy collecting cans and bottles was threatened by the North Cheer Squad. He just wanted to collect soft drink cans in that area, but they wouldn't let him.
Anyway, one Weslo security guard slowly made his way there. The result? He told the can collector to move on. I'll bet someone will say that that was good work to keep the peace, but a guy just wants to do what he was doing - everyone else doesn't care about it...so why not let him continue?

Why did the North cheer squad object?

Don't know really. It sounded like to me that they didn't want him there. Anyone else on here that was nearby may be able to tell it better than me, but all it looked like was that he was collecting cans.

Sat in the members with Mrs_dog_ger.
Great crowd. Well behaved. Saw nothing bad.
Umps were good.
Said hi to Barry.
Roosters played well. Eagles not so.
It's only June.......
I beleive can collecting is tabu at all grounds.
Cans go to junior developement or something towards those lines.
Is it a SANFL rule..? Don't know......

Did not see the incident but I personally cant stand having someone fishing around under my feet amoungst bags etc picking up still full $6.00 cans as that guy was doing today .If its crunched and in the open it's fair game but FFS a bit of tact would have helped his cause.

Yeah, I'd agree there, but I'm not sure how he was collecting them. This thread is not having a go at either party, but against Weslo.

:p I've said it before; they are only good at getting kids off the oval.

I thought Weslo were over the top at Hickenbotham Oval too - I was subjected to a pat-down search entering the ground today.
No wonder the security industry is a bascketcase.

Only if the cans/bottles are placed in the Junior development bins or bins of that nature. If people want to collect empty cans/bottles to get a couple extra $ who are weslo to stop them.

North do have one guy (Darryl) who goes around the ground picking up cans for junior development, Im not aware of any set rule though.
The issue is he was a menace as he was picking up people's full beers, if he'd just picked up crushed cans near noone it wouldn't be an issue.
Having said that If the guy picking up cans was mentally deficient then allowances should be made.
I think if Weslo moved him on potentially stopping a nasty incident they did good in this case, that's their job.

If he was picking up full cans fair enough. Damn, I thought I had another case against Weslo!

My question is why are you leaving full cans of beer on the ground??
These so called security guards sometimes have the mental capacity has some of the people they pick on

Disgrace. Could understand it at other grounds where the beer is $5.00 + but not at Prossie, cheapest beer in the SANFL.

Lock him up I say

what happened was mr campbells (matty and joels dad) cousin had a drink of coke on the ground and the can dude grabbed it.(they sit right next to us in front of the cars)the cous said oy leave it there mate ,move on and the can dude gave him lip,and procceded towards us and said something to us(dunno what) i said move on buddy then the game ball was kicked over the boundry line right in front of us. he dropped his bag ran towards the ball,at the same time a lad ran for the ball at the same time, both had hands on the ball and the north supporter grabbed it . then the can dude grabbed a spare north flag and threatened the lad with it.a few of us in the squad told him to f**k off and thats when the weslo security came.every time we play the eagles this guy always arks up, dunno why maybe caus his got his eye on my bottle of coke.
having a screw loose doesnt give him the right to be a prick everytime he walks past.but no harm done.

Ah, yeah, I thought there may have been something more to it than what I thought. Cause I've never seen anyone object to someone taking cans in the area, so again, fair enough.
Just that I've been disappointed that Weslo were doing their job for a change.

we (north cheersquad) actually get on with weslo quite well.wasnt always the case, they used there power they have to much early on as in swearing (banter) between opposition supporters, like calling the cops for swearing twice, but now they just tell us to turn it down.but i think half if not more are there specifically for cheersquads .dunno but thats just the feeling i get.
as for the old fella with the cans,he bags us everytime he walks past us.gives me the shits but gotta just brush it off.even offered him 5$ for his bag if he would rack off
another positive for the day was i didnt have to listen to ozzy sellin his bloody raffle tickets today

Haha, yeah, he was selling Budgets I noticed. He was at Norwood oval a couple of weeks ago too selling them. I've also seen him selling AFL Records at AFL matches, too. A character, he is.

Easily answered....saves a walk to the other side of the ground every round. They were under our chairs and still got touched .
