The worst umpiring i've seen in a long time

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:16 pm

I made the trek to Prospect today to see what I thought would be a crackerkack game between North and Eagles. What I seen was a game ruined by 3 blind white ferrets who were clearly umpiring in a biased fashion towards 1 team. This umpiring display would have to be the worst i've seen in a quite a while and believe me I go to 20 + games a season. At best they were trying to be home crowd pleasers. Please SANFL grow some balls and discipline these 3 idiots. They have to go it's as simple as that. I know this post may seem like I'm a sooking Eagles supporter after another loss but that's not it at all. I am the first to admit that the Eagles are below par at the current time but today they were'nt given a chance. They were simply umpired out of the game from the get go. :? What do we have to do to get umpires that are willing to umpire the game straight down the line. It seems to me the SANFL really want the Roosters to play finals footy and that was shown today with the umpiring display.

C'mon ehl - they were bad both ways today but North marginally got the better run in the end. It wasn't as one sided as you are bleating about!

Personal post - opinion only

We played behind more often than not and thus 50 :50 seemed to go against us - in my opinion umps did not win it for the Roosters nor cost us the game - North were the better team on the day

Mate it was woeful. Blatantly biased towards North and if the stats say anything different it's courtesy of a couple of soft ones they chose to pay our way very late in the game. I stand by my original statement it's the worst i've seen in a long time.

I didn't state that was the reason for the loss Col. They certainly didn't do us any favours though.

Personal opinion only

Agree EHL stats dont tell the story as I reckon it is the ones missed and where frees are paid that counts in footy supporters thoughts.

Stats I saw had North 8 frees more overall on the day - just 2 a quarter more than us - and as we were more often behind than in front probably fair enough.

Eagles were stiff on one occasion when it really counted (the Symmons mark). Other than that, it was not any worse than any other game this year and it didn't favour any team. Yesterday at Unley was worse.

The umpiring in general this year has been pathetic. Obviously instruction from above to penalise on every available opportunity and the umpires aren't good enough to be consistent. I preferred previous years when generally play would be let go.

Yes, that's the one where he had control of it until he hit the ground and it popped out. North took the ball down the other end and got a free, which in turn was a goal.

North were in front when they got their free kicks, and I guess that's what it's about - first to the ball. Though there were instances like O'Hara throwing the ball to a team mate whose resultant kick travelled less than 15 metres but a mark was paid. But it goes each way I s'pose.

Fair dinkum EHL, get on with life, Umpires have always made mistakes and been questionable (esp if your team loses) but you really have to move on

That's the thing that really erks me mate. the consistency of the umpiring always is a concern. But when you see a free for something paid down one end and then not the other and that happened on several occasions today. That's what makes you think there is a biased element to it champ. It just annoys me because with some decent umpiring we could have seen a classic contest with a much closer margin than we actually saw.

I think that's a little unfair Dutchy. I did preface my comments by stating I didn't want it to sound like I'm having a go because we lost. I think the umpires need to be made accountable. It happens to reguarly.

I should have posted this in 2006 but better late than never.

I still haven't moved on from the 3 losses we had last year against the Eagles where clearly the umpires wanted the Eagles to win so badly that we North got umpired out of the game in what were 3 of the worst umpiring perfomances in the history of the modern game. Those two massive losses at Thebarton and Woodville where the umpires paid frees to the Eagles, missed those to North - even linked onto some of the circle work, laid some tackles and sheperds and if I recall actually kicked a couple of goals each as well for the Eagles, one goal where the umpire soared above the pack, took the grab played on and ran 100 metres without a bounce and threw the ball past the big white sticks and his mate with the white coat and hat gave it the two fingers. Yep those bloody umpires. If they were not so biaised then North would have easily won those two games. As for the Prelim final, it was the most one eyed display I have ever seen against North and clearly that cost us a GF spot.

Those losses had nothing to do with being belted by a better side on the day twice and once in what turned out to be a closer one by a more hardened finals performer.

edited - P.S. I hope that complaining Eagles "sook" - ehl can see the "sarcastic" content in my post but to do so, take off your rose coloured coke bottle glasses first.

I'm sorry. :( I hope you read my post in full, however and it wasn't a sook - things happen each way. I never blame the umpires for a loss - the same as I don't blame a bad draw for the teams misfortune. Players win matches.

Point taken mate. I generally don't take it too seriously but today irirtated me. I standby the fact the umpiring did not directly affect the result of today's game.

I was merely venting my frustrations. I have now stated on numerous occasions that the umpiring wasn't the reason for our loss. There was no need for your sarcasm.

What a pathetic thread. The umpiring was shit today but it went both ways, we got more frees as we attacked the ball harder.. we were first to the ball and usually if you play in that way you are rewarded. You are just giving other Eagle fans a bad name EHL with this sook thread, why don't you focus on the way your team played and their basic errors instead of blaming the umpires for the loss.
