Round 12 It's rivalry round.

Postby eaglehaslanded » Tue Jun 19, 2007 12:17 am

It's round 12 - rivalry round. I've been looking forward to this one. I must say I was a little bermused though when I saw the match ups the SANFL had created for this round though. Should be a great weekend of SANFL footy with no AFL games in SA to compete against. Let's hope everyone flocks to the venues to make this round a huge success for the league.

This is how I would have programmed rivalry round myself:
Port v Norwood
Central v Eagles
Glenelg v North

(uncertain about match up from 3 remaining teams South, Sturt, West)

I realise Glenelg and North were programmed in round 10 but surely in hind sight this could have been programmed for round 12 instead.

Send us your thoughts. I'm curious as to what other footy saers opinion is.

The way things have fallen, I think the SANFL would be pretty happy with the fixtures they've set for this week. Norwood vs Sturt couldn't come at a better time. Glenelg supporters should go to Alberton with confidence. Central will make the crowd a respectable figure no matter who they play in a night game at Elizabeth and South vs North, well, who really cares...

I would have persoanlly thought that Port v Norwood would be the biggest rivalry going around and I think it's a damn shame their not matched against each other in rivalry round.

Oh definately agree. Great rivals, what with all the GF's we've played off against each other. Definately happy to be playing the Dogs in rivalry round. It's a shame it's on Saturday night though. I don't think they'll be as many there as there would be a Saturday arvo. I know several Eags supporters that won't be there cause of the night factor. They would all be there if it was an arvo game. Carn the Eagles.

If this was on Saturday Afternoon, I could not go as the 17's and 19's would be at the same time as the League and Reserves. As it is on from 6.30, I still might not get there as it would be to far to go after the Underage games and I don't know if next door is going to it yet.

What rivalry do North have we South?
we would've been better off playing West- 1991 GF, Stephen Riley/Roger Leuders....

Have to agree with that - but there is a good case for Port as well.

Maybe though Port could have the bye as they are every ones rival in some way - probably even there own at the moment as well

Not to mention the fact that the North supporters regard West as a greater rival than all other teams bar the Bays.

Yeah I'm with Punky on this one

should 've been:

North v West (with S Sims and M Simpson tossing the coin)
Centrals v Eagles
Port v Glenelg
Sturt v Norwood

(Actually the last two games could have been any combination of the four clubs as per the 80s as to maximise attendance PA, Gl, N and St would always play each other in the same rd i.e one rd PA v N and Gl v St, another rd PA v St, Gl v N)

Either that Pt v Norwood and the battle of Cement hill (Glenelg v South) with Sturt having the bye
