are the eagles satisfied with last year ?

Postby bayman » Sat Jun 23, 2007 11:10 pm

i know they have some players out but are they satisfied with the relief of finally getting the flag & are not 'mentally' putting in 100% for 100% of the time ? i think these thoughts have some merit what do you guys think ?

Yes, some aren't putting in 100% for the whole game. Too little is being left to too few. Many are coming in and out of the game. Fuller, his support staff and the senior players need to do something to get everyone going in the same direction again. And, it needs to happen now, or this season will be done and dusted.

The thing the Eagles have going for them is a very mobile and capable full forward and centre half forward in Schwarze and Grocke. They also have a strong ruck division. What they need is forward line players with pace and more importantly desire and a willingness to work their ass off to get to the contest. They also need the midfield to run as hard forward and back as possible. They need to work out a Centre Half Back line that's going to be a wall and rebound. McKenzie, Passador and Inkster can not be in the equation and any games we get from them here on is a bonus.

Some changes need to be made. Jarrad to the forward line and Paul Stewart to the wing? Treeby to half back? One of the ruckman forward and bring in Pedersen? Fuller's got to do something.

Most will come down to hard work, but something also needs to be done to tweak the side so it can be playing positive, attacking, winning footy again. The personnel is still there even with injuries to be finals contenders.

been saying it for a while, i think they are more than happy to rest on 2006 for quite a few years.

I wouldn't say we're resting on the success of 2006 at all. When you lose players the quality of Westbrook, Potter and Skipworth before start of season and couple that with the longest injury list in the SANFL. It's not so much injuries though all clubs get injuries it's just we have quality players injuref like Hall, Colville, Inkster, Mckenzie and Passador. Any club regardless of what state or competition for that matter is going to struggle. We have a back line full of young kids with the exception being the experience of Pedler. Our onball division is strong but not as strong as previous years and our forward line has 2 key targets willing to bus their gut but no one else willing to raise a yelp. If we can address these issues get some players back from the injury list and we're still a chance of playing finals footy. From there on in who knows because anything can happen.

Clearly not fit and should not have been selected in the first place.

Yes, but he was still at the club spurring the other players on. Since he left, the Eags have hardly given a whimper.

The dogs had this problem last year losing so many premiership players from the year before, and not recruiting heavily, and then having a lot of injuries and guys carrying injuries into games.
I think it still comes down to mental attitude, which is what it looked like a bit last night. They just dont look as desperate.I dont know if they are waiting for the injured players to come back and push on or what but by then it could be too late.

Agreed dogs01. You need to committed, desperate and hard at ball, I think our problem is we're only doing that in patches. If we started doing that for an entire game maybe we'll be a chance of at least finals.

Eaglehaslanded, do not despair yet. We were in exactly the same position this time last year as you guys are now. Cheers.

Well, unless you are seven years or under, you have lost four. Still, seven other clubs would love to at least make it to the GF.
Cheers

I'd hate to look back at last years glory just because we performed below par. But I did notice over the few years before last seasons big day, my fellow supporters saying "oh well at least my club made it, unlike your club". To which other clubs supporters replied "I'd rather miss the GF than lose it".

its not just flo its other players in the past 2 or 3 years that gave the club depth that we are missing, blokes like angus, christie and a lot of others playing country and saafl football. There is no wonder we cant win in the league and the B grade is like watching a under 15's game.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.
