Extreme disapointment with Elizabeth Oval

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sun Jun 24, 2007 10:46 am

I have to say after making the trek all the way out to Elizabeth last night I was extremely disappointed with the facilities. Playing surface was a joke - it was a case of spot the grass amongst all the dirt and mud. The lighting is absolutlely daplorable and the SANFL need to investigate maybe not playing night games until they get their sub par lights fixed, maybe even add an extra tower or 2. There were parts of the ground which were very hard to see. Lastly the catering - I had to visit 2 different canteens before I could get a hot pie and even then at best you could only call it warm. I'll also give you the big tip if you have 4 working in the canteen at least have 2 working on each side, these braniacs had 3 on one side and 1 the other - very smart obviously Have a good hard look at yourselves Central Districts with all the money you have and you still can't get facilities at the ground up to scratch. But that's OK isn't it you have GRAND CENTRAL - the place is like the taj ma hal or something. You can see where all the money gets spent. Last of all but not least how about investing in a couple of rows of seatd around the ground - it's a joke that one's only way of getting a seat is to bring a deck chair from home. Smarten up Centrals and you might find a few more people attend games at DOG PARK.

Not at all snappy. I made the trek out there with an open mind willing to give it a go but having been there now at night it will make me think before going to another match there at night.

This is the wrong time of year for night SANFL games - period - I will agree with you on that.

i think the lighting at elizabeth is fine, personally i think it is better than at norwood as for the ground yes it is very heavy & central are training at other venues so not to cause more damage to it, it seems to me that your having a whinge because you lost, but no matter what the conditions if you get to the ball 2nd you'll run 2nd in the match & that is what happened
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

That sounds like a mighty big case of sour grapes to me.

Point 1. Its Hamra Homes Oval our sponsors pay alot of money for naming rights. Get it right.

Point 2. Central District no such club as Central Districts.

Point 3. If more than 40 of the Eagles fans made the trek we would care for their fans opinion. Seeing I counted 30 fans in attendance your suggestions will be noted.

Point 4. Craps on both Thebarton and Woodville Oval put together.
Centrals 16.11 107 North 5.12 42 the dynasty continues .

I will only address this point as the rest has been addressed by others.

Night games at Centrals are very well attended - the worst attended being last night, against YOUR TEAM. Don't blame us for your teams lack of support.

Point 2 See point 1
Point 3 You can't count past 20, I'd say there would be more than 30 though and again, WGAF if you noted Eags' suggestion.

Central are one of the few clubs that have some initiative to drive things forward in the SANFL, their initiative of putting up the lights and having night games has given them an increase in crowd numbers, which is great for the SANFL in general, I hope that more clubs take up some of the ideas that they use to promote the SANFL. I too would very much like to see them crack a crowd of 10 000 at Hamra, considering what else they have done there is no reason why they can't.

No doubt the Doggies have the same problem as any suburban ground does when masses of people show up for a game. That problem of capital works projects is the same around all of the grounds at present. I have no doubt that Central are aware of what they think is priority work that needs to be done and no doubt have a plan of what they are going to do to improve matters. It should be understood that any night game at any venue in June is going to be both cold and dewy, that is a characteristic of S.A weather, the clubs just have to work out the best way to deal with it.

Nope, just appears to have made the 4 points you thought worthy of sharing with all of us look as foolish as we all think they are.

Hamra Homes Oval just rolls of the tongue now, doesn't it?

Or are you trying to avoid having the word "Elizabeth" used?

I take it there was no crowd trouble at Hamra Homes last night? The fact that all the criticism is about the oval and the lights may well be because they have nothing else to complain about. The same thing happens every time Central have a win. Opposition supporters try to 'bring Central down'. It is either the supporters being feral, the canteen, the condition of the oval or the lights. Is it all to deflect attention off the poor performance of the team that played Central? I mean one supporter this weekend even went so far as to say Central were responsible for it being 'too cold' for them last night!!!!! *grins*

Booney, never had a problem with the canteen myself there. However, I have to agree with the behaviour of some of our supporters at times. Darn, why am I admitting that?? *grins*
There is no doubt that the oval is not in great shape at the moment either. However, apparently it was in good enough nick for the ball to be bounced rather than having to be thrown up so the actions the club is taken to limit football there must be having a small positive effect.
As for the lighting, all I can say is that I have spoken to players from opposition clubs about it and they seem to be quite satisfied.
Cheers.

The ground has always struggled to come up the same (our usual quality) in a post-drought year.
The grass took a pounding from the long dry late last year, and the long hot summer. Will take a season end this year (if we get decent rain) to recover.

I think this is another issue for footy grounds in future times - drought wiping out grounds. Not just SANFL level...

My gripe was not with the opposition supporters or the way we played or the fact we lost it is the fact I believe the ground is sub-standard for matches to be fixtured at night time.

That sounds like a mighty big case of sour grapes to me.

4 reasons I don't think your points are valid.

1. I don't care how much a sponsor pays - in my eyes and in the eyes of even a lot of bullies supporters it will always be Elizabeth.

2. Central District or Central Districts I don't care. I always believed it was Central but the scoreboard last night read Centrals.

3. There were just as many Eagle supporters make the trip out there as on any other occasion out there.

4. At both Woodville and Thebarton you can get a hot pie, use a toilet that's not sub-standard and sit on seats in the outer without having to bring your own deckchair.

Not trying to deflect attention off our poor performance at all bulldogproud in actual fact I have made many a comment about this on different threads in previous weeks. Secondly there were no problems with the crowd, actually very well behaved. It was a pleasent evening from that prospective. I've never liked the fact you have to bring your own deck chairs I've always thought it was the responsibilty of ground managment to have adequate seating provided and thirdly I thought the comments on lighting and canteen were valid points and this wasn't mentioned to have a direct crack at the Dogs because I would say the same about any other venue if I thought that was the case.
