central has a dilemma on its hands with that being that they'll finish minor premier (no thats not the dilemma) it is they have a bye in the final round (r23) then the first week of the finals & if they won the 2nd semi another week off so they could play on

sept 1st (round 22)
sept 23 (2nd semi final)
oct 7th (grand final)

i dont think this is an ideal way to prepare totally for the finals & more specifically the grand final, perhaps losing the 2nd semi would be better preparation for them

The BYE in the last round should be allocated to the side who collects the Wooden Spoon from the previous season. Its more than likely that side wouldnt be affected in the same way the Doggies might be.

Huge dilemma for the Dogs, if they keep up their form the only thing that will bet then is not being match hardened in September, look at 2002 for example they had a bye in round 22 played Sturt in round 23 and won, played Sturt in the second semi and won and played Sturt again in the Grand Final and lost. Not sure how the Dogs will prepare for September if they win the minor premiership. They could play one game in five weeks if they play and win the 2nd semi, which is not the best way to go into a grand final.

done similar before, 3 games in 6 weeks going into a GF, atleast 2 or 3 times now.

Yep, I hardly think with Centrals dominance since 2000 that the end of the minor round draw is going to bother them!

I'm pretty sure they've had the bye in the last round (or 2nd last round) a couple of times in the last few years. Surely if the SANFL was playing fair it would be rotated or like G's suggestion, given to last seasons spooners.

From what I can see, Centrals could have a 10 week break, and it wouldn't make a difference as come finals time they'll pump anyone.
No dilemma from my POV. Clearly the best side going around, and will remain that way...

So what your saying is give Westies the bye in round 23 every year from here on in.

Centrals had a rd 22 bye in 2004 and still won the flag so I don't think it's a major issue. What the lesser of two evils, less games or form flirting?

Dogs were favouites for the flag and clearly the best team for the year.
Had beaten Port 4 times during the year including 2nd Semi.
A bye in the second last round meant that for the last 6 weeks of the season played alternate weeks and lost the GF by 36 points to PORT. Match conditioning was eroded during that time.

Dogs in 02 played sturt 3 times in 6 weeks, can't have been ideal.

However I think the conditioning program is tailored around the byes more now than it was then so I am sure it will not be a problem.

North were normally tough but brilliant back in Sims' day..however, Sims on Simpson, Riley on Luders, Hay on Radbone were dark moments.

The Sims incident was a square-up; in retaliation for what Simpson was doing to Hart in the 1st quarter...
