Wedgie wrote:I have problems with this for 2 reasons:
1) some players do play for less at clubs more attractive to them for various reasons, for eg Ian Callinan who the Dogs had given up on because of the money the Eagles offered him but Callinan rang Centrals back and took their lower offer.
2) what's to stop some of the more jealous clubs that can't recruit from lying? For eg North could tell the SANFL they offered Prendergast 60k when they in fact offered him 25k. (that's hypothetical, I have no idea)

Nothing's been signed so there would be no official documentation, I could type up a letter with Sturt letterhead saying Im offering Jimmy from New York $100k a season and it still doesn't fix scenario 1 I suggested.
If the people involved with the salary cap don't know the sort of money being offered for players then they shouldn't be in the job as there's plenty of people that do.
Grahaml wrote:I'd heard Callinan turned down bigger money to play for the dogs. Nice idea, but unfortunately speculation that "we offerd X, so the club he went to must be paying more" doesn't actually cut it. Need more proof I'm afraid. Just a media beat up by someone looking to fill space in their poor excuse for a paper.

P.S. What's it like to be outnumbered 10-1 at your own home game by the visiting teams fans? Whats going to happen when all your current supporters "cark it" - you would have the oldest per average age supporter base in the league. I can see the day coming that the doors will close at Richmond for lack of interest when the 2 old men and their dog get sick of watching your rabble.

As sledges on this website go, the above paragraph easily sits among the best. Pure poetry. Each word is an individual dagger, lancing stright through the heart of the opponent. Never was a sledge more succinct yet so thorough.![]()
I especially liked the "pie eater" bit.
