If Brant Chambers gets to 100 this year at the Adelaide Oval

Postby spell_check » Sun Jul 01, 2007 12:35 am

...will the SACA hire 100 extra security guards to keep the crowd off the oval? :)

Not sure what to make of this post ol' spelly.
What I can tell you is that when the Jumbo Prince scored his 100th goal at Unley in 1983 against Westies not 1 person jumped the fence and the place was reasonably full. (round 16?)
(you could supply a crowd number no doubt)

so IF Chambers gets to the 100 this year, I doubt they will need any extra security. 8)

I just thought the SACA might be the fun police should anyone want to jump the fence.

I can't tell you the crowd for that match, because Excel is not working for me currently.

100 is a great effort. Still up against it from here IMHO. Would like to see it (so long as he realises he's had his years worth of goals V the dogs already), but there's a reason it's special. Needs about 5 goals a game by my reckoning to get there.

Are you sure about that Smithy?
I remember when Rick broke the record at Footy Park later in the same year, no one could jump the fence due to the massive army of Red Coats, but I reckon I probably jumped the fence at Unley when Rick kicked his hundred. Though I was 12 at the time, so my memories of my various oval invasions may be a little muddled now.

And I never thought those doggy fans could do higher maths!

Seriously, I hope he gets there, it would be good for the comp to see the return of 100-goal forwards. Just as long as he doesn't bag 10 against my mob!

Might need more if they're going to carry the band-wagon off the Oval too!
Incidentally, anyone wanting to start a new band-wagon - Norwood has four to eight wheels to lend them (as of yesterday), enquiries should be directed to REB.

100 goals requires a season without injuries - and I'm sure he'd like to take on Norwood a few more times this season! :? :?
He'll go close, IMHO.

I heard once that running onto the ground when someone gets 100 goals is a Victorian thing, and we only jumped on the bandwagon much later.

I have no idea if there is any fact behind this though - what memories do people have of what happened when SANFL players reached the milestone?

I only remember being at Adelaide Oval when Allan Jackovich kicked his 100th goal. All the Woodville supporters ran on to the ground. Was a minor event for that day though...

C'mon Ecky you should know this, there are photos in "the Pride of the Bay" and a montage of photos use to hang in the coaches room in the change rooms of "Fred" Phillis kicking his ton agaisnt our bitches in 1969....kids everywhere on the ground...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Noone jumped the fence when Grenville scored his 2 100s or Johnny Roberts scored his last one.
Let's not be sheep and follow a stupid VFL tradition.

As Ecky suggested, perhaps this could turn into a thread recording the times that the crowd jumped the fence to celebrate 100 goals? :) And whether or not it is a VFL tradition. I've also seen a picture of it happening when Phillis scored 100 goals in 1969, and it happened again when he registered 100 goals in the third quarter of Round 17 1975.

I doubt if anyone on here is even old enough to remember Colin Churchett in 1950 and 1951, so the next 100 goal season by player is:

1969 - Fred Phillis - Yes
1970 - Fred Phillis
1973 - Ken Whelan
1973 - Dennis Sachse
1974 - Ken Whelan
1975 - Fred Phillis - Yes
1980 - Tim Evans
1982 - Tim Evans - No
1982 - Trevor Pierson
1982 - Greg Edwards
1983 - Rick Davies - No
1983 - Neville Roberts
1983 - Grenville Dietrich - No
1983 - Roger Luders
1984 - Tim Evans
1984 - Grenville Dietrich - No
1985 - Malcolm Blight
1985 - Ian Willmott
1986 - Stephen Nichols
1987 - John Roberts - No
1988 - Stephen Nichols
1990 - Scott Hodges
1990 - Allen Jakovich - Yes
1994 - Scott Hodges - Yes
1996 - Scott Hodges

And for the Farmer 100s, no.

Just watched The way it was 82' and no for Tim(Round 19 vs South-they showed his 100th) so probably safe to say no for all of his there. They mentioned Pierson's 100 but no footage of it and (unless I blinked) no mention or footage of Edwards 100 except at the start of the video.

Will watch 83 onwards throughout the rest of this week.
