Sorry for a team performance like the players of the South Adelaide Football Club dished up today against Sturt at Unley on your Testimonial Night!! (on TV too!!)

You are a legend to the club and deserved better than that insipid performance today.
Keep your head up and thanks for your loyalty and commitment to the club.

Cheers :)

Is this a trick question?

Sampson is unless I was not told.

So you're apologising to the captain for a team effort that he captained?

The mere fact it was Sampsons testimonial tonight should have been enough to motivate the players. How could the majority of he South Adelaide team look him in the eye?

Sampson was setting an example to the other players but they did not respond.

Clarrie you are right. If I was a South player i could not look Clay in the eye tonight and say I put in 100%.

How could he look them or the supporters in the eye captaining that effort?

i'd dare say he'd find it pretty bloody hard. but, i don't think you can question sampson's endevour. he has been a true club man and deserves better. funny that you'll bag him but stick up for pyman... :?

I thought the same Clarrie. When you talk about committment to the South Adelaide Football Club you only have to look at the committment , loyality and heart Clay Sampson has shown.

As for Pyman........ :?

I haven't bagged Sampson or stuck up for Pyman at any time.
Mind you I did go to one function that promoted the South Adelaide Footy Club and Robert Pyman, Ben Kavanagh and Phil Herden were there but no sign of Clay Sampson.
I think some people are mislead when it comes to the degree of who has so much love for a club and who doesn't.
If Pyman had got his way over the off season perhaps South wouldn't be in the position they're in now?
Let's face it, if he'd got his way they couldn't be any worse off.
Perhaps the blame should be aimed at the people who don't give him what he wants or chop and change to try to accomodate all parties?

Unfortunately I think Sampson re-did his shoulder today...

bad luck for him, he tried his guts out today.

Does anyone honestly believe that it makes more than a tiny amount of difference whether it's a tesimonial or milestone game? These guys aren't country hacks who mightn't give 100% all the time they're at least semi professionals who you would hope would give their all each game equally. I'd be disapointed if there was a marked change in endevour simply because it was a milestone game or some sort.

In theory you're right Grahaml. These guys are getting paid reasonable $$ to play footy and should be giving their all week in week out. The reality is that this isn't the case. How many times do you see a coach depart or a player play a milestone game and a team suddenly plays above its recent form. I think the point of the thread is perhaps more along the lines of how the players can play as poorly as they did today when they know they are facing up for their captains testimonial that evening. More of a self respect thing than a "let's do it for clay" thing...

I think you're confusing effort and confidence. Sometimes players play with a new confidence when something changes. The effort shouldn't change more than 1%.

Clay, sorry for the zoning system so you had to play for South instead of the team you followed as a kid - GLENELG

Geez you South supporters ... (uses the term loosely)

When will you all realise it's ONE CLUB - when the CLUB puts its a performance like that EVERYONE must take responsibility. Sampson, Pyman, everybody. Do you think Sampson was looking for anyone to aplogise to him. He should be standing up with everyone else and aplogising on behalf of the club. United front, united club, united supporters ... maybe then some positive results will come. Stop singling out parts of the club for praise and others for the weekly bagging.

I don't remember the Norwood supporters eating their own as badly as this after their recent effort v Centrals. Remember, South were very competitive v Centrals when they played last and are still only 1/2 game outside the 5 after making the finals last season.

Well put Hondo, not to mention they were only one decent quarter away from a Prelim final last year (and who knows what would have happened if they'd got there as they had less injuries than North).

I agree with what you have said Hondo apart from your crack at South supporters. We may be a bit vocal re our teams performance yesterday but you have to look at things from our perspective.
We have a great list (on paper).
We have not had a premiership in 43 yrs.
We got a sniff at finals footy last year for the first time in a generation.
Many of our supporters believe that the club is underperforming and we have probably blown a chance of playing finals footy again this year.
Many opposition supporters are very comfortable with where we have been for the last 40 yrs.
As someone who attends 90% of the games you are embarrassed by performances like yesterdays. Especially when the opposition ridicules you.
You have absolutely no idea what is like to support a club with a ingrained history of underachievement like ours.
So when South people on this site voice their disappointment at such an inept performance like the one we witnessed yesterday you may get the idea that they are no longer comfortable with being every other clubs whipping boy. I think this attitude is a good one. Because one way or the other the current situation is unacceptable.
