I think the most interesting stat to come out of that is that Central lead the stats in almost all categories but rank last in handballs. This could illustrate one of two things:

1. The value of a direct kicking game, rather than running handball.
2. The fact that other teams do not put Central under enough pressure, allowing enough time for players to kick and not to have to handball under pressure.

Thoughts??

Cheers

Norwood needs a lesson from Glenelg on how to get on the best side of the umpires.

The telling stat is that the dogs rank no 1 in marks also. They have the ability to go direct and pin-point a forward and/or are able to take contested grabs. Hence the confidence to go long with the kick.

I've thought from looking at these stats from the last few years that the premiership contenders are often the best defence and ball efficiency. Followed by attack. Not sure any of the other stats are relevant.

From memory South had the most handballs and may have had the most possies last year too.

But the teams line up almost identically with their ladder position if ranked by defence also!

Yeah its a bit of a no brainer the the teams that score the most points or have the least points kicked against them will be at the top of the table.
A much more interesting stat is how 4 of the top 5 sides have the lowest amount of handballs per game.
Shows the importance of kicking the bloody thing IMHO.

Dogs have hte fewest number of rushed behinds. Is this an indication they don't kick long to the goal line from 50, but pop it up to 20-25m out instead? Could this be a by product of the accuracy in refusing lower percentage shots when not required?

Could be, definately a sign of the best organised forward line in the SANFL IMHO.

Mmmm, but Port are ranked 2nd in both these stats, but are sitting 6th (or 7th?).

I think our gameplan is ranked 11th though... behind the other 8 SANFL clubs and also Freo and Kaurna Eagles...

This is where we have improved this year. We have had the best defence for a long time now but have improved our attack. I suspect it is due to a better midfield delivering the ball better.
