Please be advised that the West Adelaide Football Club has informed current senior coach Wayne Weidemann that the club will not be offering him a new contract to coach the club in season 2008.



The decision, made by the club’s Board at its monthly Board Meeting, has been made at this stage of the season to ensure that the club can begin the detailed process of appointing a successor to Wayne for next season. This process will involve a sub-committee with individuals from both within and external to the club. Details of this sub-committee will be announced in the coming weeks.



Wayne, with the full support of the club, will fulfill the remainder of his contract and continue to coach the team until the end of the season. Both the club and Wayne believe that there are still opportunities for improvement and success for the final seven rounds and look to the playing group to support Wayne and the club to achieve this.



The club would also like to thank Wayne for his tireless work over the past two seasons as the senior coach, along with the previous two seasons as assistant league and reserves coach.

I wonder who the next coach will be? It'll be a very important decision in the scheme of where Westies are at.

Well I suppose his on field coaching record has led to this ,no big drama really .no success no job.

I wonder if anyone at Westies were critical of the decision to just appoint him last year without advertising the vacancy. Who's decision was it? You'd have to think it wouldn't have been unanimous to go that way.

No doubt this time around there will be a rigorous search for a new coach. Who knows who they could have missed out on by just appointing their Reserves coach last year without seeking applications.

Not really surprising after reading this on Bulldog Banter: "An incredible tale but true.... after the Ressies game and as the cheergirls are doing their thing I visited the mens establishment behind the grandstand... on my way in I saw Wayne Weidemann on his way out. After completing my mission I then left and saw the same WW leaning on a wall at the back of his teams changerooms... smoking a ciggie"

Im not on his list, I might apply for the job, in a drunken stupor on the weekend I told Mrs Wedgie I need a challenge and might become a South supporter, a West coach would be even more of a challenge! Put in the good word for me r&b!

Sheesh! Can't a bloke have a pre-game piss and smoke to calm the nerves these days without getting pilliored for it?

If I was about to coach Westies in a league game I'd be pretty friggin nervous as well...

Interesting comment Thiele, I would have left a title like "The Great Man" for a Barrie Robran,a Russell Ebert, Maybe a Peter Carey but Wayne Weideman ????????

I guess there's a degree of relativity at play...
