Club logo's, imagine if................................

Imagine if all of the 9 SANFL had used the imaginative genius used at Unley all those years ago and named the team after the colours they wear.

Rather than "Magpies V Tigers", it would be "The Black and Whites V the Black and Golds", imagine Eagles fans trying to get "The Blue Green and Gold's" to roll off their tongue. It would be even worse in the AFL. Carlton is worse than Sturt, they only used 1/2 their teams colours (more than likeley that was the limit of their spelling), but that would save having 3 combinations of the "Blue & Whites V Blue & Whites", Geelong V North Melbourne games would have that all to themselves.

Why pick on Sturt, why not go all the way with your fishing by asking why the teams didn't have nicknames based on just the colour of their socks , like Norwood ?

So Ian what is the legal size for a Sturt supporter?

But more importantly are they in season at the moment???

But then again this post was started by some one who like to watch the Cocks...

The next door neighbours sons were over visiting him yesterday, the eldest one (13) came over to play game boy with our son. His father is a one eyed Magies/Power fan, both of the boys are Power fans. At the dinner table the conversation turned to footy.

My son:Who do you follow in the SANFL

Nieghbour's son:Sturt

Me:You're dad's a Port supporter, you follow the Power, what made you a Sturt supporter?

Nieghbour's son:They have the closest colours to Port Power.

Suggest you go off and research the origins of the 'Double Blues' Ian - it's not just because they are pretty colours

An SANFL history lesson for Ian:

"The team shall be called the Sturt Football Club and it's colours shall be the light blue and dark blue of Cambridge and Oxford Universities." Arthur Thomas, First Secretary of the Sturt Football Club, March 7, 1901

Perhaps Ian should come and look at some street signs in Unley...

Imagine this: "The team shall be called the North Adelaide Football Club and it's colours shall be the white of a rooster's fluff and the red of its comb."

Did Prospect used to be some kind of chook farm? If so, was it free range?

Unley Oval sits at the junction of Oxford Tce and Cambridge Tce.

Reading some of the old budgets and news articles, most of the teams were called their colours I think. I know West Torrens use to be called the blue and golds and would imagine it would have been the same for most teams till logos became popular. Bob Hank brought the Eagles name to the footy club in the 50's, copying the West Torrens baseball club. I assume other clubs were similar?

Don't think north have ever been called the Eagles.  Plenty of other names though, especially after the last couple of weeks.

Here's some

The Pretenders
The Weaks
The Where has that Grand Final gone too's

The last one might be a bit too long to fit on the guernsey unless it's worn by Ladhams or Motlop :)

Didn't the majority of the club's first playing list also play cricket for the Sturt CC which was also based at unley oval

One reason was that Sturt FC came into being after an already existing Unley Football Club. I think the cricket club call is right though.

How come Sturt is nowhere near Sturt?
Isn't that up near Darlington somewhere?

and not associated with the Unley Football Club of today either.

Wedgie, Marion FC play their home games at Sturt Oval or reserve don't they?
