Patrons in the Front Row at Football Park

Postby Sojourner » Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:10 pm

In the letters to the Advertiser today a patron has written in about his negative experience from the SANFL Redcoats on the weekend. Apparently people in the front row of the Northern stand were harrassed for hanging their clubs scarfs over the front fence as it was obstructing the advertising, yet no such action appeared to be taken against the number of Football Park members doing the very same thing on their side......

Since when has there been a rule that you cannot hang your scarf over the fence at Football Park? The atmosphere is sterile as it is, why make rules that make it more so? ](*,)

I agree with what you've said sojourner. If I was an advertiser though and paying big $ for signage I wouldn't be too happy. Obviously the $ is more important than Joe Crowfan!

You think that's bad? At a Paaaaa game this year (work paid me to go, true story), I saw a red coat instruct a band of fans in the northern stand to put away their cameras. They were from the eyre peninsula, photographing their kids in the auskick.

AFL - can't touch it.

Its pretty much a blanket rule in every area of life today, you CANNOT take photos of kids in public, even your own.

I hardly think that the atmosphere of the ground is changed by a few scarves on the fence. It is a standard rule at any stadium that most would know and accept. The members side has very little exposure to tv coverage as the price of signage refects that .

Does bring back to me the story of North Adelaides banner from last years final game at Adelaide Oval.(wedgie reported it on this forum)
Is it a case of too many little Adloph Hitlers or Eva Peron's in Adelaide running around in RED COATS. Thank god they dont know who i am.

There wouldn't have been any scarf problem halfway through the last quarter, they had all left by then.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Why would you want to take your scarfe off and hang it over the fence? I'd much rather be keeping my neck warm whilst sitting in the shade with a nice Southerly blowing.

I wouldn't even subject my scarf to be put on anything at football park except my neck.

It's been the rule for at least 25 years.
Back then though there was many gaps in the signage where you would see stuff hanging over the fence.

The members wing is not on the televised side of the ground.

Besides, the main issue with Footy Park is the fact you can't take a beer to your seat...

Run by Mormons or Methodists, I'm sure...

btw - shouldn't this be on the AFL board...

The trade off is that at least you can get full strength at Footy Park, at Subi they keep the plebs in control by serving up mid-strength.

Maybe, but I don't actually go to the footy to get turpsed (although sometimes that happens). I'd just like to be able to watch a game AND have a beer (light, mid or full), and not have to stand behind the stands in some shitty "bar" with 2,000 other punters trying to neck 3 cups in 8 minutes...

Seriously, it's like they think beer drinkers are going to assault everyone around them if they go back to their seat with a cup - and really, have you ever tried to punch someone with a full cup of beer?

What actually happens is that their restrictions actually create a culture of irresponsible alcohol consumption.

But who cares - not like I've actually been to Footy Park all that often recently anyway...

And this is coming from a bloke with an avatar like yours... ???

Mate, you'd be suprised with the calibre of some of the Port faithful, not just professionally, but also as valuable contributors to the wider community.

Sounds like the cleaners have got their way so that it takes less effort to tidy up Footy park after a game :?
