Higher Expectations

Postby MST » Sun Jul 29, 2007 11:07 am

How times have changed if you are involved with Sturt.......

Last season we would be calling for a public holiday after a rare victory.

Fast forward to 2007 and the players, coaches and supporters left Broadspectrum Oval slightly disgruntled with a very flat performance. New standards have been set and it can only be positive for a club to be pretty dirty with a 20 point victory after leading by 54 at the last change.

Full credit to the Bloods as they were spirited all day and got reward for effort in the last quarter. Although Rick Macgowan made plenty of changes in the last quarter, trying a few things, West should take plenty of heart out of the performance. I hope they can play with the same enthusiasm for the remainder of the year and get off the bottom as I believe they are a better prospect than South Adelaide.

For the Blues, a chance to rest and reflect over the bye next week so they come out firing for an assault on this years flag!

Go Blues!

It's been an amazing turn-around and will be the blueprint for how clubs can turn around their fortunes so quickly without recruiting big name stars.

I think Doug Robertson summed it up perfectly this morning in his article with this paragraph:

"It is down to hard work and dedication . . . but he has modestly overlooked the mutual respect between Macgowan and the players, plus his humility and an exceptional ability to communicate. That's Macgowan's core currency."

He's wrong. It's completely down to the professionalism of the club and the fact that their players are heroes. :-)

At least put the name Sturt in the thread title so those of us who are a little tired of the regular "Strurt are great" threads don't have to read it.

mmmmm

No arguements on the job McGowan has done, bl##dy genious.

But, his record is first class, was at Jar's side when Norf's got back on track,,,, was next to Fuller when they finally got on the Dog Curse & now, unbelievable.

May have a 3 year deal but im sure if he was offered an AFL assistant's job, and his form read's like clarksons, he would have to take it.

Where to then for the blueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss.

But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

Isnt there reports of no grass at Elizabeth? perhaps you could donate the clippings to the club to grow some grass on your playing field
