I thought that too because what if the main outcomes of his findings are down to the coach and how he runs the footy dept? What will South do then? I bet not too many negatives will be addressed or pointed towards the current board or paid management positions - Phil H of course not included as he has done a great job from what I can see and have been told.

I'm not also sure that Kevin Morris is the right person to head this review as his SANFL link was at the WAFC and they haven't exactly set the world on fire with their off field stuff in the past case in point - when Morris was at West it was Doug's way or no way!

A lot of $$$ if you have to pay them out - $$$ that SANFL clubs don't always have spare to spend on 2 coaching contracts in 1 year

that was my point, can a club that is in a rebuilding stage off field afford to take a step backwards and pay 2 coaches next year?

A number of the members including myself pushed for this review to happen. Kevin Morris was a surprise though, the word was the Michael Nunan was one name being closely considered.

South approach their off field activities very well, the club has built a significant stream of cash flow and despite being a losing club have done a massive amount of work to try and win supporters for the club and to try and get people in the southern area interested in the SANFL. The crowd against North at Hickinbotham this year was the highest crowd attendance between the two clubs at Hickinbotham which would appear to suggest that the club is on the way to getting some things right.

The problem being that the onfield performances have been absolutley Sh*thouse to be blunt. No matter who is the coach there has to be a reckoning for that.

What I want to see happen is for Kevin Morris to assemble a good team to work with him and for every aspect of the clubs on field operations be critically examined. Naturally that would include a review of Pymans training, preparation and match day coaching. Yet another critical area is the clubs recruiting. It needs to be examined as to why the club chose the players that they did and the process that they went through to get there reviewed. I feel that it is in this area that many of the problems have come from and not just for this season.

Souths problem is having a team of players that are passionate about the jumper of a club, because of what the club has done in the past, I think that this is where we fall behind many SANFL clubs. Hopefully Kevin can come up with some reccomendations as to exactly what we can do towards fixing all of this!

He's as good as any. And their off-field stuff is going OK. Mind you, how hard can it be to install 40 poker machines.

But perhaps that's where the problem lays. They obviously needed to work on the off-field stuff, and they have, with some success, but perhaps they have "dropped the ball" when it comes to the playing side of things.

Morris was a succesful coach at West and was roundly shafted. He knows what rotten smells like...

That might have had something to do with the travelling support North brought although you can't fault South for being innovative ast their home games which has obviously helped? It was clearly 2-1 numbers wise in North's favour although I think the numbers were boosted by Punk's appearance for North in the legends game!

Morris was superb for the bloods back in the early 90s, the panthers can do alot worse than appoint this guy in some capacity, if not a coach.
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

Really guys, you have a full time coach on good $$$$$$$'s.
Then more full time football operations staff on big $$$$$.
Now another one.

if the coach cant get the team's S**t together as a full time coach then i see no reason him being there.

Get kevin in, one postion, doing it all. it's obvious pyman cant do the job (its been 4 years!! 2008 will be the 5th!!)

I like Kevin there, but please make it full time doing the lot!!! 8)

I wouldent be rushing in to get Kevin Morris in as coach of the Panthers as good a coach as he may well be.

What I hear around the club at the moment is that there is a group of people around the club who resent the fact that both John Reid and Ken Sheldon were sacked after "losing the support of the players". It is being suggested that one of the reasons that the club has such poor onfield success is because of this idea of supporting the players over the coach in conflict situations.

The suggestion being that its time that the club toughened up and made it plain to the players that anyone that doesnt want to give 100% for the club can ____ off. Perhaps if the club didnt constantly try and persuade interstate players to come to the club, yet rather put their funds into coaching people from the local and country zone that really do want to wear the jumper of the club then things could be a lot different.

I was one of those calling for the coaches head earlier this year, yet I have realised that I was wrong to do that. South are bottom of the ladder and show few signs of improvement for the future, with that in mind, maybe its time that the club got some balls and told a few people where to go for a change rather than sacking the coach. Considering the last 43 years, I can hardly see what we have to lose by it, we may well gain some players that really are passionate about the jumper which could make all the difference for the SAFC.

Very sensible post ... hopefully (IMO) the club is looking at it that way. Any decision regarding the Coach or any other part of the club must be made by the Club. Not by the players and not as a result of having a gun held to the Club's head.

Often these things are caused by a small group of influential people who spread a cancer through the whole group (in this case the players), making the problems seem bigger than they really are. People are easily lead down the wrong path by a couple of persuasive personalities. Sometimes it's best just to cut the cancer out .... a la Blighty at the Crows in 1996.

But who knows? I certainly don't know the full story down there. Seems like some tough decisions have to be made in the coming weeks, I feel for the club and their supporters.

This was in this week's Sportsbeat magazine, by Chris Kendall, about South's situation. A very interesting read...

I found Pyman a very approachable guy with a great sense of humour when I met him.
He's a different man on game day though but that's expectable as his full concentration is on the game at hand.
