LEAGUE
Before I started to write the report for the Norwood game, I had a look at what I wrote after last week’s Glenelg game. Except for a few changes in player performance, it was a carbon copy of the game for both. We dominated early and petered out a bit which gives us something to work on.
Once again we were well served by Jarrad, Treeby and Powell. Fiacchi had another improved game and Vince was solid after missing a couple of weeks. Dabrowski and Lindsay gave us a good look at it and the efforts of Salter, Grocke and Schwarze topped us off. It was good to come through the game unscathed, apart from Sam Fairclough’s knock to the mouth which loosened a few teeth. He will be fine but it was another example of a mouthguard preventing some serious damage.
We now come up against a rampaging Central District at Elizabeth. Our last four games have been progressively better since we played them last, but we haven’t got that four-quarter effort yet. Central District prided themselves on their tackling and persistence that night, which is an area we will have to be prepared for. They have taken all before them this season and it provides us with an opportunity to see where we are compared to the pacesetters of the competition.

RESERVES
An excellent start to the game paved the way for the Reserves to achieve a great win over Norwood. The first quarter was our best footy of the year so far, with the highlights being our quick ball movement and our pressure on the opposition forcing Norwood into many turnovers. For the first time this year we were instinctive with our handball and consistently hit targets by foot which resulted in a year best return of nine goals in the first quarter.
It was always going to be difficult to maintain such high standards for the entire game, and full credit to Norwood who persisted and fought their way back into the match. After the Redlegs closed to within five points late in the last quarter, we were able to regain our composure and kick the last two goals to record a great win.
Importantly, a number of our senior players in Gavin Colville, Mark Passador, Tim Inkster and Vinnie Rugolo got through the game unscathed and in most cases with a full game underneath their belt. All had their moments and with increasing fitness will push for League selection shortly.
It was a total team effort with our senior players showing great leadership but also our younger players having a real impact on the game. Mark Passador was very strong at full forward and led well for eight goals. Sam Davoren and Jared Petrenko were very exciting with their pace and use of the footy and our onball brigade were led admirably by evergreen Gavin Colville and Adam Klun.
We have set a high standard for ourselves with Central District representing another great challenge this week. With a repeat of the same passion and intensity of last week I am sure another win will be the end result.
