SANFL footballs.

Does anyone know which brand of football the SANFL uses?
I was under the impression that it was Burley.
But watching the Eagles v Centrals game yesterday, I noticed they were using a Sherrin.
From my own experience, the shape is different between the two.
I found the Burley was rounder than the Sherrin.
Perhaps they changed and I didn't notice. :?

IIRC it is the choice of the home club what ball they use...Burley, Faulkner or Sherrin.....

Each club gives a ball to the umpires before the game. They use one for one half and other for the last half

Seven of the clubs use burley, two use sherrin last I heard.

I believe sturt and the eagles are the two who use sherrins, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I know that the juniors use Burley, I'm not sure what the League uses. Maybe CD might shed some light on the matter.

From studying photos Ive taken Ive drawn to the following conclusion.

Glenelg, West and Norwood use Burleys.

North, Central, Eagles, South, Port and Sturt use Sherrins.

Defiantely more than 2 use Sherrins!!

I never realised that we had a situation where the brand of ball is changed at half time.
I remember the early eighties when SA was going to play WA in a state game, one of the SA players (Port bloke I believe possibly Curtis) was originally a Sandgroper, and at training demonstrated a slightly different kicking style used for the WA football (I think was a Burley) for the benefit of the Croweaters, as that was the football they would use for the game. I am pretty sure the SANFL used Sherrins exclusively back in those days.
So all this makes me think, if balls are swapped at half time in SANFL, is there any correlation between team performance in a half of football and the brand of football being used in that half? eg, would a team suddenly play better when their football is used, and does it happen regularly?

Poses an interesting question but often they don't use the same ball for a straight half, as usually you'll get the ball booted over the perimeter fence (eg: Glenelg and Richmond, or lost down the seemingly endless hill at the southern end of Noarlunga).

There are two footys at the game, Sherrin gets first quarter, Burley gets second, Sherrin gets third, Burley gets fourth.

Is that for league? I know for U/17s and U/19s they don't swap the balls until half time (unless a ball is lost, and generally they'll use a training ball until after the break).

being an exoffical at the dogs Equipment Steward they do use the sherrin and have done for years, but when they play against a team that use the burley they have been known to practice with that type of football, as its a lighter ball and yes more rounder then the sherrin.

Some balls are held for charity
And some for fancy dress
But when they're held for pleasure,
They're the balls that I like best.
And my balls are always bouncing,
To the left and to the right.
It's my belief that my big balls should be held every night.

Be it Sherrin, Faulkner Burley,
Get your balls inflated early,
You sure don't want them flat,
We couldn't come at that.

Sounds as though you are just itching to tell us about them.
