Without a shadow of doubt the best press reporter of SANFL in this state.
Has a passion for the SANFL, a great promoter of the code, writes good
accurate articles, and a terrific radio guest on the 5RPH footy shows.
What I like about DR is he spoke from the heart and calls a spade a spade.

I will miss his advertiser posts.

I know DR will read this post, all the best for the new PORTfolio.

Now, now Wedgie, are you implying that a person of the fairer gender would not be able to write as well as a bloke?

Tut-tut... Had you down as a SNAG too... :-)

I'm not sad to see him go and nor are many at North. After he got an armchair all expenses ride to Darwin last year and gave reasonable coverage during the year, he has been very anti-North behind the scenes this year, including going against North's wishes on the Sth Africa story before it had even got to halfway planning. I think his analysis (particualry previews of many matches) have been way off this year and not just games involving North.

Having observed him "hopping into the red" at a SANFL Club lunch and then reporting on the game which resulted in a completely different review from those who actually watched it, I'm not suprised he has been moved sideways because he has been off the boil and poor IMO.

I just love it how even the media tries to put a postive spin on a sideways "demotion". Police Rounds - give me a break! They are normally reserved for old cranky 40 a day smokers who like a drink and are burnt out or pretty young female cadet/graduate journos who charm their stories out of the coppers.

Well, BPBRB, I think he's done a great job for the SANFL under difficult circumstances. He accompanied Westies on the trip to Hobart, but has got stuck into us when we've deserved it (which has been often). That's his job.

A trip to Darwin doesn't mean he should toe your line for years after.

Good luck to him. I hope he keeps on the RPH show.

Met him after the SANFL win in Vico in 2005. Seemed to be a "top bloke".

Hopefully he had some say in his move as you don't like to see loyalty "rewarded" like that.

Doug ROBERTSON may well be a top bloke as mant attest to, but I agree totally with the views put forward by BPBRP.

I have been astounded on many occasions with his best players and am now understanding why.

Agreed too, met him once, great bloke, love his radio stints but his study/analysis does leave a bit to be desired.
His feel good/character stories are great reading but a fine eg of his study/analysis was when he mentioned several times how Callinan and Crane were miles in front of anyone else when it came to the best recruit of 2007 yet Jimmy Allan was leading the Advertiser Player of the Year Award by about 9 votes at the time.
Sadly we're going to lose the best thing he did (ie weekly character stories) whilst still copping the worst thing he does (anlaysis/match reports).

I wonder what he did to get put on Police reporting? :?

Its a shame that the advertiser uses top writers to go on and write different things. I feel Doug might have stepped on the great Rucci's toes and rucci got rid of doug. Well if the editor of the advertiser had any brains he would have made doug the chief football writer anyway and sports editor.
