The South Issue...

Postby LPH » Thu Aug 09, 2007 12:37 pm

It appears that a number of you want to bring me to task about comments made about SAFC 8)

That's OK, I'm a big boy, I can take it.

BUT...
At least I have provoked some PASSION from any otherwise dreary topic (i.e Car Parking !!!)

My point about South is this...

1. No matter how you look at it & records are there, they have NOT performed, I stand to be corrected by spelly (highest finishes since 1970 - 2nd 1979, 3rd 1991) ... that's POOR, no 2 ways about it.

2. Financially the club has recieved incentive after incentive during this time, most recently the State Govt. waivering the payment of around $ 1/2 Million on what was owed on Noarlunga - which is by the way a SUBSTANDARD Ground - catering, away team facilities, etc.

3. They SHOULD have been panelised MORE severely by the SANFL for breaching the salary cap in 2006 - granted they were not alone & other teams should've as well.

4. The number of coaches they have hired & fired is up there with Glenelg as the worst in the League - stability breeds success ( cases in point, Pies, Dogs, Eags ).

5. With the amount of JUNIOR success & the Southern Area players available to them, CLEARLY they have a scouting problem or a problem ATTRACTING / KEEPING quality young players - hence the need to breach the 'cap' by importing Victorians.

Having said ALL that, my point is this...

It is clear that SAFC MUST (to coin a phrase) 'take a good hard look at themselves' FROM the TOP to the BOTTOM & if someone from within their own club is not prepared to recognise it  , then perhaps someone from another club (who LOVES the SANFL competition, I might add) needs to !!!

I thank you.

I hesitate to say that i like it.
Pehaps the sacking and hiring of coaches is in a desperate plea to find a "quick fix" solution, rather than looking at the issues aforementioned.

If you'd posted this instead of your original diatribe, you might have had more people agreeing with you, or at least takiong your post more seriously.

And 'taking a good hard look at themselves' (a phrase which has already been coined) is far different from the merger which you were espousing in the previous thread.

Was going to respond but thought it pointless. Why argue with an idiot, they only bring you down to their level and whip you with experience....

LEH, I suggest that if you want people to take you seriously that you choose a more appropriate avatar. Your current one is very childish.

Agreed. One like Blacky's or WCP's would be much more appropriate.

Quite true, South's performance since 1964 has been a massive dissapointment.

Bear in mind that the ground is leased to the club, the State Government didnt give the deeds to the club. The car parking on the ground is successfull, the rest of the ground is not up to standard, for that reason the club is investing 3mil to bring it up to speck, the plans are on the SAFC website.

Agree, I felt quite ashamed to see that happen, there are no excuses for that type of behaviour and anyone who participates in that should be given a life time ban from the club and kicked out immediantly.

LoudEagleHooligan wrote:4. The number of coaches they have hired & fired is up there with Glenelg as the worst in the League - stability breeds success ( cases in point, Pies, Dogs, Eags ).

I dont agree with you there, We have had a few coaches, yet not the turnover of Glenelg. I disagreed intensley with the sacking of Greg Anderson, yet that is the nature of clubs and the opinions of individuals, yet in any case coaches have been given more than two years to make there case, Pyman four years for example.

Can the sides in the SFL beat the A1 sides in the SAAFL?

Totally agree with your last point, the members of the SAFC have called for the very same thing, hence why Kevin Morris is currently at the club leading a group of SANFL people to undertake a complete reveiw of the club. This should be finished in a month or so and I for one am very keen to read the transcript of what Kevin finds, There are several deep seated problems that the club needs to deal with and its time to get stuck into it!

I commend your positive attitude, Sojourner. I also hope those in charge at the club share it as that will be vital to the decision making process over the coming months.

Sojouner... how nice it is to read an HONEST ASSESSMENT of your club :D

It is important that your club RECTIFY the problem ASAP or I believe the current problems will continue.

Glad to hear investment in the ground.

My comment regarding coaches was more an '80's & '90's relationship with coaching problems although Read & Sheldon come to mind also.

As for the previous avatar comment... Hmmmmm 8)

Well said Sojouner (and LEH too!).

I have heard from a realible source at South that some at Board and Management level are worried about the amount of debt that will be associated with facilities upgrade. I was told that some Senior figures and indeed a number of members at South want (or have already got) the original expansion plans scaled back so the debt owed on the borrowings is paid off quicker and not a weight that impacts the clubs cash flow given an expected drop in revenue is likely when the no smoking laws take place??

If there is any truth to this and I wonder if Mike Rann will step in and pay for that as well if South get into difficulty?

Keep your eye on the South Coast for a new Panthers venue and second revenue stream, not unlike what North are doing up at the Dragons club on Grand Junction rd....... 8)

I'm not sure whose avatar is more moronic ,LEH or Power01.
For an Eagles supporter to criticize the safc is a joke. I'm the first to agree that we seem to revel in mediocrity and our performance over several generations is just not good enough. But LEH, we are the second oldest club in SA, we are sound financially and unlike 2 other sanfl clubs have resisted the easy, spiritless, spineless option of packing up and getting under the sheets with our next door neighbour.
Any way I would have thought that people like you would love seeing the panthers as your whippingboy, you would want us to become competitive would you? :?

Having a go at my avatar isnt the issue blue and white, its your club that the issue, just because i agree with someone/something you want to start personal attacks.....well go ahead thats fine....but it doesnt resolve the never ending problems of the SAFC.......maybe its attitudes like that, that have effected the wellbeing of your club..............

Power 01, I'm the first to admit our track record against anyone is ordinary. Please do not question my attitude to the club where I have been a member for 32 years. I've seen it all I'm afraid, despair and desolation disappointment after disappointment. These are things than you would not know a thing about .
