Eagles look the team to beat in 2006

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:07 am

My Mighty Eagles finally look like they will win that elusive premiership. Having recruited just as well if not better than most SANFL clubs. The Eags finally look like they have the team to beat. With a set of twins who are supposed to be just as good if not better than the Gowans at doggie land, all Eagles supporters should be excited as it looks like we're going to the promised land, finally we should see premiership celebrations at Oval Ave. With Centrals losing years of experience it looks as though North will be our only true challenge but even they are not proven in the heat of finals. Bring on 2006 I can't wait. What do you all think?

I think the Eagles en masse are too preoccupied with the Dogs. Again.

Eagles, "proven in the heat of finals", perhaps up to the Prelim', after that they haven't proven too much.

The "Eagles" have done more to prove themeselves under the heat of finals in the last 6 years than North has. The only thing we haven't done is win a flag and that is surely going to change in 2006.

I think there might be something strong in the water down there... in case you haven't noticed, your closest neighbour has had the chequebook out & is spending coin as freely as the Derwent runs. Centrals certainly aren't a spent force, having regained a Magarey Medallist as well as other recruits, as for the Mighty Roosters, I'll let their actions speak. Realistically, Eagles would be fourth in line for the throne this year, so that elusive Premiership will remain just that- elusive.

My "spies" tell me that Fuller is working his forward line game plan round Adam Grocke at CHF. If that is the case then I wouldn't start making premiership predictions (unless the comp only consist's of the Eagles and their ressies)!

As much as I would like to get excited about my beloved Eagles its way to early for that yet .
But as you armchair Coaches have written us off AGAIN wont it be nice to do a told ya so post .But we have done more in 6 years than some others ie roosters and Port not withstanding this year the wharfies have bought up big and hopefully will get caught over spending on the cap,and the roosters continue to take players from other SANFL clubs just wait untill Ohara tries to kick the ball long  .
at least we have recruited for our forward line not like other years where we relied on Ellis, plus new coaches at seconds level and development level .
Bring on the season guys i cant wait to go woody oval and our other sacred ground thebby .
GO you EAGLES in 2006 :D

Well we got O'Hara - you got Grocke and Oakley from us, 2-1 in your favour this year so who is luring players from other clubs plus you tried to lure Nick Kurzel away before the finals had finished - illegally I might add but you didn't hear our CEO come out in the press and at the SANFL table whinging and complaining. Unlike your CEO - he is one of the biggest complainers at the league table about every other club and what they are doing. He should keep his mouth shut and get on with it - maybe then your club will focus and win a flag. I seems that a reasonable majority of people at Woodville Oval have a inferiority complex and looks fo all the excuses other than the obvious for your massive underachieving. Yes you have had a better last 6 years than North in terms of ladder position but what have you won - ZIP!. Since you formed I believe the premiership count for both clubs is 1-1.

Do tell us about your forward line recruiting - I haven't read any names that would put any fear into the defences of the other clubs?

Re O'Hara - next you Eagles people will tell us that he can't read and write and needs a walking stick to get on the ground! Never heard those comments about him when he played for the "Eags" or the State side last year???

You are kidding are you not holden78??? If you think that then you are dilussional. You will see more of Grocke modelling in the Harris Scarfes catalogue than starring in your forward line!!!

Yes - we got a real dud in O'Hara!

Geez mate dont you think its a bit early to be having a footy hissy fit
You guys cant throw stones how many eagles and dogs players did you guys take last year? maybe if you hadnt recruited from other clubs and ex AFL players your juniors wouldnt be leaving !! (yes I know its happening to eagles as well)Didnt know about the player you mentioned but thanks for that bit of info.
But as i said before its too early to get excited lets see a game or two first before we get to excited . And other clubs shouldnt compare officals and coaches Im sure if everyone tried hard enough we could all find something wrong with each others guys .
your flag count is correct I was more worried about u guys in 2004 finals than last years and I was proved right and port I was worried about before the injuries to them .
So lets wait until the first ball is bounced .
Cheers

How is that relevant? He's our CEO, not our coach. He 's a very good CEO as well.

I wonder whether that would be to punish the trouble-maker half?

As for O'Hara, we haven't recruited him for CHF, where he's required to take pack marks & kick long bombs, I believe he's there to win the ruck, & likely a loose tall who drops back. I predict Lonie will play at least 10 games for us (if not more), and his thumping left footers will be damaging enough.

It must be getting close to the season start as the narkiness is returning!

Just on Glenn Elliott, top bloke, always time to chat to anyone, in fact his whole family is nice (and involved with the NAFC). You only have to look at where North was when he came on board and look at where we are now to see how good a job he's done.

Just a note of interest from his coaching days I found this snippett in the Football Times of June 13, 1985:

Sports Talk by Dennis Brown:
I ran into Glenn Elliott at Football Park on Monday; he was looking at Centrals for next week's game.
Without going into details on what a top coach Elliott is becoming, he is not only a good coach but a very modest one as well.
He continues to heap praise on his coaching panel, from colts, thirds, seconds and skills coaches.
He said "We work together as a team".
It is refreshing to talk to a coach, obviously enjoying outstanding success who just wants to praise his staff.
But according to Elliott, even though Torrens are winning, they aren't playing well enough, and he is after improvement. I'll bet he gets it.

PS Just on the subject I agree that the Eagles have proven NOTHING in recent years, North are in the same boat too but I don't see what relevence that is as we're discussing the Eagles. They'll be around the mark again, definately in the top 4. IMHO there's a big gap between the who will be in the top 4 and the rest of the comp.

Heh, Heh Heh, this is a piss funny thread.

I can't believe you North posters have risen to the bait and are giving this thread legs.....

As Cassius Clay once said, 'It ain't boasting if you can back it up" Mr EHL, like us (3/14) you (1/6) haven't the runs on the board to back it up........

Excuse me I'm off to turn the air-con up.......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Oh here we go again. another year but yet the same attitude remains towards the Eags. Everyone except our own is busy writing us off as a spent force before the season starts. Well we'll just see who's laughing and who's crying at the end of 2006. Guaranteed it will be the mighty eags turn to laugh this time. We've had our share of heartache at GF's in years gone by but surely it's our turn to take the Thomas Seymour Hill Cup back to Oval Ave. Let's see the blue, green and gold fly in 2006. I can't wait to tell you all "I told you so"

Quick, get some medical help to Oval Ave. EHL is obviously standing out in the middle of Woodville Oval, & is suffering extreme heat stroke!
