16 fans needed

Postby cd » Sun Aug 19, 2007 1:32 pm

Happily in my fourth year as the board member working in Player Welfare and Memberships I can say we've set an all time record for membership again this year for our club - 2084

Maybe not as high as some others but given we probably dont have as big a supporter base as some other clubs I am really delighted that Eagles fans have joined the club as members and really supported the boys. Many Thanks

Now for just 16 more to get to 2100 for the first time ever in our 17 years. Surely there are another 16 folks I can get on board as members!

A shame only a 1/4 of them go to Woodville to watch their club's games.

Yeah their home game turnout is very poor even allowing for their smaller following. You would never know that the Eagles had two exisiting supporter bases to tap into when they were formed - the lack of Eagles fans, considering that since their inception they are a perennial finalists is shocking. They also, like West, seem to have very mature average age of their supporters - not alot of younger people seem to be Eagles fans however that is going to be an issue for all SANFL clubs in the near future.

Looked like North easily outnumbered the eagles fans on the TV.
Lots of red when the camera was panning around the crowd.

Yeah, when I saw the title of this thread I thought CD was trying to get more Eagles supporters than usual to a Woodville game.

Agree , we have struggled to cement a supporter base since 1991 , I thought that may have changed after last years premiership but I think we have 10000 suporters and probably ony 500- 800 go regularily to matches. How to fix it ? Hard one to answer.

If all clubs could model Central ( 100s of kids at their games wearing bulldogs gear) then the SANFL will only get stronger.

Unfortunately with the popularity of the AFL its an uphill battle.

Hopefully in the next few years there will be a blond hair blue eyed girl/boy kicking the footy at Woody Oval that I can teach the blue green and gold propoganda.

Yes I am a paid up member .
It should be stated that the formation of the ADELAIDE Football Club took alot of the fan base away from WWT.Not that this is an excuse perhaps just a fact.
And to be honest at halftime at yesterday's game I was thinking why didn't I watch this game on TV. Then at fulltime I was glad my heart medication was working .
We should really show CROWS (I wont mention the other mob ) fans games like the last few weeks to entice them back to SANFL games.

Just as a gimmick CD did anyone walk up to Neil Craig or Alan Stewart yesterday and ask them if they wished to join up? Perhaps Ossie could have with the opening line its harder than selling ice to an eskimoe.
OF course WEDGIE could have snapped a pic of the event and earned another donut.
The same applies for when Chocco sits up near me.

Where the Eagles could make some massive gains is in their allocated country area. Moonta-Wallaroo-Kadina are areas growing at a blistering pace. The Moonta Lawn Bowls club is the most popular lawn bowls club in the state.

South have made the annual pilgrimage to Goolwa a success (The Eagles were quite happy to support the idea). There is no reason why at Easter there cannot be two country games on. If South play a home game at Goolwa, the Eagles could always play a home game at Moonta which is absolutley packed over Easter. With the right marketing 8000 at the game wouldent be a bad figure to strive for.

The idea being to have an Eagles membership sign up table. The Eagles are there supporting the local league, there is every reason that members of the local community might get on board with the club that represents them if the right connections between the club and the rural area can be maintained.

And I believe that's what a fair portion of our fans were doing yesterday. I think a game in the country zone next year would be a great idea.

Good to see so many opposition supporters are willing to bag the WWT as CD tries to help his club reach a record figure.

Maybe keep this sort of stuff for other threads and other posters.

PS: Good luck CD. I don't care how 'poor' your membership numbers are, but the more paid up club members all clubs have, the stronger SANFL looks.

Nah DW, just having a bit of fun with CD like I often do.
No sour grapes but I did have the awful sensation of sour beer on my breath today. ;)

I wish CD good luck, a top bloke, doing a top job. If there's anything we can do on here CD (besides leaving donuts for others) let us know, I love the way you use the internet unlike most other clubs do.

Yes, it didn't look all that good on the telly yesterday, plenty of red and white, would have been a top atmosphere if there were about that many Eagles supporters too.

This is a weak excuse, but I think part of the factor is the areas proximity to football park, and made it easier for "supporters" to jump on to the Crows. Then again, our crowds up until we lost the 94GF were fairly reasonable - bit like the Bays until they lost the 92GF.

Reckon 2100 members is a fairly good number given the numbers we get to games, which is poor.

I dont mind any 'fair' bagging of us as it means folks are at least talking about us - which is always good.

I believe our numbers are up this year re attendances - i thought there was a few more than 2400 yesterday at the game.

We have quite a few members in country SA, interstate and o/seas - about 8% of total.
We do rate very well when on telly which at times i think hurts our match attendances.

If my memory correct - about 7 years ago our membership total was just 865. In 2003 it was 1365, in 2004 we got it to 1635 then 2005 was 1802 then last year we had a record membership of 2051 and now this year so far up to 2084.

We continue to try to make our membership deals attractive and good value for money and of course are hoping to develop a supporter base where families bring their children and grandchildren up as Eagles fans for their SANFL team.
