Eagles James Stewart Wins Rd 20 Coke Star Search Nomination

Postby Wedgie » Mon Aug 20, 2007 4:41 pm

As predicted by LEH before the game:

EAGLES’ JAMES STEWART WINS ROUND 20 COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION
James Stewart from the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club has been named the Round twenty Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.
Playing his eighth League match, 21 year old Stewart’s solid defensive game was crucial in the Eagles’ 3-point win over North Adelaide at Woodville Oval on Saturday. James collected 16 possessions in the back pocket, including 14 kicks, 2 handballs, 3 marks and one tackle.
Recruited from the Henley Football Club, James progressed through the Eagles underage and reserves teams before making his League debut in Round 12.
Stewart is the Eagles third Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee this season following on-baller Jake Pavlich in Round 12 and forward Nick Salter in Round 14.

Excellent news! Good to see a guy who has toiled away in the reserves for next to nothing, while many his age have gone to play for more money in amateurs or country, get rewarded for all his efforts. He has had a real positive influence on the team since coming in and hasn't put a foot wrong. Exactly the type of player every club needs.

Will he be overlooked because of his height like Stokes was ?
I would love to see J Stewart play up the ground either centre or rove just to see if he can handle the job.

and he is a star LEH and a hard nut as well .

Yeah, I very much doubt he'd make AFL. I think him moving on to the ball will be in the plans for the next few years. Much like Lomas has done this year after a couple of years in the forward pocket.

Well this type of congratulatory post is justified. Have you:
1. Read the same old same old posts SP put's up after each historic extraordinary win from Sturt?
2. Ever me the bloke or been near him in public?
3. Listened to him call in on 5AA about Sturt - again the same content each call - cringe worthy stuff if your a DB's fan!

Very well deserved this one. Played a very good games in defence against roosters. Has been improving with every game in the A's and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes in the draft. Has a lot of potential and will play plenty of AFL games one day.

well done Stewie, he was on the brink of giving the eagles away if he didnt get a league game this year. When Sam Fairclough went to the under 18 champs he was given the chance to take his spot and has grabbed it.
Has one of the best kicks on both feet in the team has all the skills and has played better and better in each game.
I am not sure he is AFL standard and is pretty small but I hope he proves me wrong.

He has had a good comeback year after breaking his leg last season.
