Yes you're right, my mistake, sorry about that. They still have the longest run without finals with that.

2002 was odd in a way.

I bet a Norwood mate who would finish higher, Sturt or Norwood, and his reply was "after the end of the minor round or the finals."

My reply was minor round... #-o

Win a premiership and you still lose.

From memory Central, Norwood and sturt all finished on 18-4 but sturt was lower on %

Minor round looked like this in 2002:

Central 18-2
Norwood 17-3
Sturt 16-4
Eagles 10-10 53.07%
West 10-10 49.66%

Port 6-14 46.11%
North 6-14 41.80%
South 4-16
Glenelg 3-17

an unusual year '02 in regards to the ladder, when was the last time there was such a big break between 5th and 6th?

As you allude to there was 4 games difference between West and Port in 2002.
There was 4 games difference between Port and Glenelg in 1991, Norwood and West in 1990 and Torrens and Central in 1980
In 1997,1993, 1988, 1984, 1977, 1972 there was 3 games difference.

I wont go any further back but that covers it since the final 5 has been in.

Just wondering if Central's drought from 1972 to 1994 is the longest a team has gone without winning a single final?
Cheers

South didn't play in the finals from 1941-1963
Woodville didn't win a finals match until 1986.

That's two that come to mind immediately.

However, Woodville did win a final in 1986 meaning that they did not go longer than Central between finals wins.

Dunno, I'd rate the gap from the birth of time to 1986 longer than 22 years!
