Fawlty Towers

Postby CK » Sun Dec 12, 2010 3:41 pm

Couldn't find a thread about this, surprisingly. It is regularly voted as one of the funniest shows of all time - is this a fair tag?

Personally, it's about my favorite comedy ever. Even knowing the scripts almost by heart, I still laugh like a drain any time an episode comes on TV (7 TWO commonly screen them). Probably my favorite is "The Anniversary". Just love the way Roger (Ken Campbell) spends the entire episode picking holes in Basil's story about Sybil's whereabouts :D .

John Cleese nominates this as one of his favorite all time episodes also.

Would have to be one of the best series ever made (if not the best).

I'm a big fan of "Some Mothers do have Em'" as well......Michael Crawford is a genius in that series. :D
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

CK, you've prompted me to dig my complete series of Fawlty Towers out and watch my favourite episode, "Communication" where Mrs Richards is an annoying old obnoxious battleaxe with a hearing problem.

Absolutely my favourite episode, and yes I keep laughing at them too!

I actually really like the idea that the best British comedies series only ever went for 6 or so episodes - there's no time to go stale, it keeps the writing really sharp and focused and leaves behind a glowing legacy. Unlike some yank and Australian comedy shows that regurgitate ideas until they run all the good things they had into the ground.

Fawlty Towers, Young Ones, The Office, Extras, Peep Show, IT Crowd, Blackadder, Black Books, Mighty Boosh.. just some I can think of

Agreed
Throw in the Yes Prime/Minister series as well.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.
