I caught up with Beverley Hills Cop on Fox on Sunday for the first time in a long time.

I remember cacking myself in the 80s when I first saw it. But on Sunday it seemed very dated, not very funny and I turned it off before the end

Maybe I just having a grumpy day but I wonder if anyone else has watched a movie after a long time and didn't enjoy it as much as you remembered? I also saw Escape from New York and laughed when Snake used a cassette tape Little things like that can be distracting maybe you just have to overlook them.

The Shawshank Redemption - preposterous movie from the preposterous Frank Darabont.

Donnie Darko - the massive plot holes become obvious after repeated viewings.

Fight Club - didn't think a film could be that bad. So I watched a few more times to make sure. Only got worse.

So why does Hollywood keep making crappy remakes which ALWAYS turn out to be utter bollocks anyway then?

Thankyou! About time someone put that godawful cliched yawn back in its box. As a consequence I try to avoid anything with Morgan 'tug the heartstrings' Freeman in it. I was looking forward to the Dark Knight but the '...and Morgan Freeman' credit scares me.

Oh, yeah, back to the point of this thread... 'Blowout' with John Travolta & Nancy Allen and directed by Brian DePalmer I think. Scared the hell out of me as a kid and I'd been trying to track it down for years. Built it up too much in my mind, couldn't help but be a disappointment.

As a kid I once stayed up late to watch Dr. Phibes Rises Again (starring Vincent Price), and was scared silly by it.

I hired the video as an adult many, many years later and found it to be not scary at all, but actually quite campy and funny.

I didn't enjoy it any less... I just enjoyed it differently.

LOL. Escape from New York is horribly dated. After all, it was made in 1981 predicting what might happen in 1997. As if they were ever going to turn over the world's most valuable real estate to a bunch of criminals. But still, it was more credible than Escape from LA.

I can remember watching these years ago and thought they were funny then. When a victim who has been impaled on a door by a unicorn (?) head fired from across the way and the heroes are trying to remove it. "Careful I think it's a left hand thread". LOL

3 of my favourite films, especially Shawshank and Fight Club.

OK, completely the reverse of this question, but I didn't like "O Brother Where Art Thou" when I first watched it (perhaps expecting something different) and switched off .. Mates all abused me so I watched it again and thought it was excellent.

I think from the wraps I'd heard I didn't realise it was a comedy, so was in the mood for a seriously dramatic experience lol ... Thankfully, I managed to see the Soggy Bottom Boys in the right light!

Do you know that I've still never seen Fargo right through!

Knew it was reasonably ordinary the first time, but was a kid then and laughed at stupid shite.
The second time around was horrendous.
Except for Kylie. She is beautiful.
