Just watched the first episode. Martin Scorsese directing, HBO, awesome cast, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre song as the theme tune. How could it be anything but must see.

On to episode 2.

Have watched the first 6 episodes now. Some fantastic characters, FBI Agent Nelson Van Alden being the pick of the crop. If you liked The Sopranos and Deadwood, then this will float your boat.

Finished the first series yesterday, and Im with you TSG .. Van Alden is both freaky and brilliantly played.

In fact I reckon most of the roles are well played out .. Buscemi and Kelly MacDonald are obviously excellent in their roles, as are Jimmy, Al C, Eli, Luciano, Rothstein etc.

Very solid first series and look forward to the next .. For some reason I didn't quite enjoy it as much as Deadwood and The Wire, but it only took a few minutes to get hooked.

I've never seen the Soprano's, but thats about to change I'd say

Can't wait for season 2 too start. Knowing Van Alden has lost his mind is causing me to lose sleep. How was that scene with the Prohibition agent wannabes when he slapped that guys face. Lmao.

And it's cranking up just nicely.

That jail cell beating handed out in ep 2 was brutal!

I'll do what I am also doing with Sons of Anarchy, try and hold out until the end of the season before watching them all.
Mind you I recently failed in this mission with Underbelly Razor as I finished 5 series of The Wire quicker than I expected to. :?

Anyway, I'll stay out of this thread for a few months in case there's some spoilers, can't wait to see it! Great show if Series 1 is anything to go by.

The last episode of Season 2 was on foxtel last night. Agreed I didnt see that ending coming either.

I think this is a great series but I would like to see more action throughout the series as opposed to saving all the crazy good stuff for the last episode. There were a few episodes where not a lot happened and when you only get one episode a week on foxtel it can be a bit frustrating.

I must get into illegal downloading I think.

I thought the last few episodes really heated up nicely .. Must admit that I'd watched the 2nd half of the season over 2 days, so maybe I came from a different angle, but I really liked the way this series slowly built up to a great finale.

Also btw, I've never been a Gretchen Mol fan, but I reckon she's looking hotter than ever in this show.

Think Im going to have borrow my mates box set of Breaking Bad now to fill the void.

Both series have been outstanding - a real void left on Sunday evenings until the next series starts.

Season 3 off to a reasonable start .. As with all these HBO series they seem to try and get something graphic to make an impact in the first episode whilst sowing the initial seeds of direction for the rest of the series.

The Sicilian looks like he's gonna be a decent character, but Van Alden is still the man, wonder what's going to happen with him?
