We've got this thread ------> viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22636 for discussion of the best tv shows at the moment..this new thread can be used for general discussion of the tv industry - new shows (for 2013 and beyond); quality programs currently airing; shows being axed; shows struggling in the ratings etc.

A few current stories doing the rounds at the moment
- the "sequel" to HOWZAT is Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story which dates back to the early 1960's - http://www.mediaspy.org/2012/11/17/pack ... at-sequel/

- Channel 7 has axed Australia's Got Talent which has now been picked up by channel 9 - http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/ne ... t/1605371/

- Amongst other shows appearing in 2013, channel 10 will be showing a new series of Puberty Blues; and a new show featuring Shaun Micallef http://www.shaunmicallefonline.com/?cat=85

- Channel 9 facing strong competition to retain cricket rights, from 10 and 7 - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/crick ... 6531590456

Getting ready to sit down and watch white collar to find out it has been pulled again.
What is most annoying that they give the info out to the media to produce tv listings and less than 12 hours later they pull it.
In the US they are up to the end of season 4 and we can't even get to watch season 3. No wonder they are going broke as they pi$$ the only customers they have and that is the reason why people buy dvd box sets or watch it on line from the US and down load shows because of treatment like this.

You mad bro? ;)

The Packer-Murdoch series might be okay.
Read about the rivalry in Paul Barry's book on Packer (recommended).
At one stage old-man Packer had Kerry and Clyde 'occupying' a Murdoch printing press, so Murdoch sent some heavies around to pay them a visit...

That's a great story.

From what I've read, the Packer and Fairfax clans tried to wipe out young Rupert.

But after seeing the Howzat repeats I expect they'll butcher it as well...

The Packer/Murdoch program will no doubt be interesting (will be interesting to see who plays Murdoch - maybe the actor who played Hawke in the ch10 mini series a few years ago, I think he's in "Rake" too..I've forgotten his name) - but I don't think it will rate anywhere near as well as Howzat did.

They've done the same with NCIS season 10 they fasttracked the first couple episodes only to go back to repeats. The DVDs of Season 10 will be out before channel 10 finish showing it, just like what happened with season 9.

The way Ch7 have been treating How I Met Your Mother
Sure, it has probably gone a season or two too long, but the way Ch7 have treated the 7th season has really annoyed me. Showed some early in the year, then a couple months ago a couple new episodes, then suddenly stopped again. Don't know whether they have shown all the season or not.

Pretty standard, really!

It's as if local networks don't give a rats that most shows today have overarching storylines.

Still stuck in a timewarp where most shows were stand-alone episodes and, except for the season opener/ender, could be shown in any order.

Thank f@%k for DVD/Blu-Ray/Downloads...

Am I the only one who can't stand The Big Bang Theory? There's so many idiots out there wearing 'Bazinga!' T-shirts these days, and it s**ts me. Having said that, I probably don't dislike the show that much, just many people who watch it.

Living in Ceduna means no Tennis on Free to Air TV this year so far as we are only converting to digital this December and don't get Channel 10 which has been showing the Hopman Cup and the QLD Tennis is on Seven Two.

Can't say I'm a fan. I want to punch Sheldon (or whatever his name is) in the face.

I lived in Ceduna as a kid in 1983/84 - only had ABC back then :( (not even GTS BKN). I think Imparja was picked up a few years after we left, so too late for us - fortunately the SANFL (and VFL "Winners") as well as the Test Cricket were all covered by ABC back then.

We hired a huge amount of videos whilst living there, and I recall people in the town getting Adelaide-based friends to tape shows for them - eg. "Webster" - and then pass them around to friends. There was only a certain amount of Penelope Keith comedies (on ABC) that you could watch before nearly dying of boredom.

Oh for the days of the decent US sitcom :( - Seinfeld, Family Ties, Growing Pains, The Cosby Show etc. Instead these days theres rubbish like How I Met Your Mother, and Big Bang Theory.

Noticed a preview for the new Shaun Micallief show, with Kat Stewart as well - I think its called "Mr and Mrs Murder" or something like that - I doubt it will last long.
