I got this email from Harry Butler about a comic convention happening this weekend for anyone interested.
WHAT - Adelaide Mini Comic Convention
WHEN - Saturday 31st of October and Sunday 1st of November, from 10am to 4pm
WHERE - Flinders Street Market, 230 Flinders Street, in the city (the big old blue shed)
HOW MUCH - entry is FREE.
Plenty of car parking is available out the front on the street and nearby.
This is a street level event, which enables easy access for wheelchairs, prams and other mobility aids.
Adelaide’s comic-loving community is invited to explore 30 stalls run by local comic writers, illustrators, manga lovers, pop culture fans, game designers, toy makers and all things related to comics.
There will also be a couple of dealers (including the author of this e-mail) selling secondhand TV SF books, including Doctor Who, Star Trek, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Star Wars, etc. To see some of what I’ll be selling, go to http://www.ozmusicbooks.com/product-cat ... -tv-series.
Dark Oz (http://www.darkoz.com.au) have organised this event to support grass-root comic creators in South Australia.
The market will also have other themed stalls, with gourmet popcorn, popsicles, cupcakes, a face painter, artisan chocolate & coffee stalls attending on the weekend to provide a mix for all visitors. It will be Halloween and apart from people dressing up as superheros and in cosplay, there’ll be ghouls, ghosts and zombies over the weekend too. Entertainment will be provided by ‘The Con Artists’, a group of performers singing pop-culture inspired music.
Information about the stall holders attending the market can be viewed at the Facebook event invitation page, which will be regularly updated by the stall holders themselves as the event approaches - http://www.facebook.com/events/734928503289255/ .
This weekend is part of the special events calendar for Flinders Street Market, which is held every week in the heart of Adelaide. It specialises in hand-made, home-grown, unique and vintage / retro stalls - food, clothes, accessories, bric-a-brac, books, antiques, records and much more.

Also taking place on the same weekend is the Prospect Record, CD & DVD Sale, at Prospect Town Hall, 128 Prospect Road, Prospect (on the corner of Prospect Road & Vine Street). Two of Australia’s largest secondhand music dealers will be selling 100,000 secondhand records, CDs and DVDs, covering all genres of music. Saturday 31st of October and Sunday 1st of November, from 9am to 5pm - FREE entry.
These two events are just a few kilometres apart, so why not visit both as part of a entertainment-culture day trip ?
