Trainspotting 2

I'm very fookin' excited to see Renton's new monologue. And...everyone's back, judging by the flash trailer I watched last night.
CAN NOT WAIT. For the movie, nor the soundtrack (the soundtrack to my late teens, early adult years).

“Choose life
Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares
Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it all differently
And choose watching history repeat itself
Choose your future
Choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn
Choose a zero hour contract, a two hour journey to work
And choose the same for your kids, only worse, and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody’s kitchen
And then… take a deep breath
You’re an addict, so be addicted
Just be addicted to something else
Choose the ones you love
Choose your future
Choose life”

The original:
“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a ******* big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of ******* fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the **** you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing ******* junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, **** brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got heroin?”

Having watched Trainspotting 2 last night, I can say I really enjoyed it. It was nice to revisit these characters who formed such a massive a part of my early adult life.
Welsh's writing is as stunningly prolific, gritty and socially aware as always, while Boyle's ability to make a script come alive is as good as ever.
I've wrestled with my thoughts about this fillum: was it good, or was it just the 'nostalgia hit' that is alluded to by the characters?
Yep, it's a good film and keeps the flame of the original well and truly burning, but I couldn't help but walk away thinking it missed a certain kind of oomph.
I felt nothing at the end, just a vague sense of having enjoyed a shout out to my movie-viewing past.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I expected too much.
I'll most definitely watch it again, the characters beg that, as does my love of them and the work (which includes the soundtrack) itself.
This isn't a negative review, I think it may say more about me and where I've moved to in my life - and maybe, just maybe that's the whole point of the film.
There's no shame in being comfortable in who you are (warts and all) and the friends you have and, most importantly, there's no shame in choosing life and the ones you love.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Went back and watched the original on Friday night, it's been ages since I'd seen it and I was keen to refresh myself* before seeing the sequel.

I'd forgotten so much of it - how good and effective the soundtrack is - even the songs I wasn't familiar with punctuated and emphasised what was happening on screen so well, the sadness of the baby scene at Mother Superior's, that Jonny Lee MIller and Kelly MacDonald were in it, and how much of a flat-out c*nt Begbie was.
