Talk on the national game

Travis Cloke was "touted" as a first rounder before the draft - if he were in the draft proper.
Though I reckon Collingwood would have taken their chances and not given up that pick.

bottom line

for me the father-son rule is now officially a joke

The rule was initially implemented to allow kids to play at the same club that there father's played at, before people jump at me "yes I am aware that Ross Gibbs did not play for the Crows"....... How ever the rule changes announced on Tuesday is against the spirit of what this rule was implemented for.....

Gibbs played 250+ games

You can't have a rule that promotes history when the history of some sides differs by over 100 years.

That's the way I see it, anyway.

The limit of when games should stop being counted ? When the first Crows/Port/Freo/WCE players reach 100 games.

So, the league works out when the first Crows player was to play 100 games, and THAT DAY is the day that SANFL games stop being counted for SANFL players to be used in father son rulings. Same for the others.

If a player plays 100 games before the Crows, then 100 games after - he can't be used. Yet if the same player was frmo aMelbourne based club and played 50 games before 1991 and 50 games after - he CAN be used.

*shrug*

Adrian Anderson didn't understand the concept on the radio last night.

Interesting how this whole ordeal has made Bryce Gibbs the hottest ticket around.Let's remember its not about Gibbs,or his old man,who most of us would have disliked, its about the way the AFL tries to conduct things on a level playing field. This will never happen.

Not that we would want to put any pressure on the lad though.......

At least with this new ruling I don't have to worry about any Central's players going to Port unless drafted. The only player I think might have qualified is Rene Van Dommele and his lad plays for Adeliade United FC.
