SHEEDY V FLOOD

Talk on the national game

SHEEDY V FLOOD

Postby mal » Tue Aug 22, 2006 11:21 pm

Outgoing enigmatic and knowledgeable veteran coch Kevin
Sheedy said this week that the FLOOD is the cancer of football.
I completely agree.
Demetriou and his lackies need to address this aboration.

I must admit this, a few weeks ago on a friday night game between
Colliwobblewood and Whorethorn with the pies about 2 goals to o early
in the first quarter this happened:
The ball was kicked long to full forward Anthony Rocca who marked about 20 metres out.
When Rocca took the mark there were 3 Hawthorn players in front, behind and next to
Rocca, somehow the footy floated between the Hawthorn players to Rocca.

My point is it was about 10 minutes into the game
Why is there 3 on 1 ??? are they trying to win ???
Dont tell me Rocca is that good.

I turned over channels and watched the trots and dogs, I had had enough.

AFL PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop the Flood.

lets not let the afl body introduce new rules just yet. I believe the coahes are strating to get it right, Essendon, Bulldogs and Freo, Richmond to name a few have disposed of the flood and have decided that the only way to beat top sides is to attack with running football from HB, some of these clubs have even learnt to use the handball effectively.......

I think the wheel has turned in the second half of the year and we are seeing better games for it, Tigers and Freo are good examples of this

Agree Syd. Also, the closer to the finals you get, the less the flood is in evidence. That has been happening for most of this decade with one or two exceptions (like Port in that showdown final last year).

As I keep saying the worst offender is the Crows. And REB you forgot to mention the GF last years Sydney won a flag with 8 goals!

Yep also agree with Syd ... I think Sheedy's right about the perils of flooding, for football purists it's not a spectacle worth watching, however I'm also in favour of leaving the rules as they are (actually I'm an advocate of them reversing some of the more recent ones, but I digress) and agree that it seems as though many if not most of the clubs are shifting their belief toward quick, straight football!

The only way they are going to attack with running football from HB is to get numbers back there and run it out. Is that flooding???

Which is why I said 'most of this decade', Dutchy.

I guess you could call that flooding MW, but I think the real flooding that Sheeds is talking about is the massive amount of players behind the ball inside 50, clogging up the supply, forcing the opposition into backwards and sideways kicks & handpasses.

Not really. You can attack from HB with genuine pace from your back 6, Freo is a good example, Mundy, Peak, Johnson and co have genuine speed, combine this with quick ball movement does not allow time for sides to get numbers back, which gives space for your forwards to lead too......

Ah boys...you've all fallen for the old 'lets-divert-their-attention-from-my-teams-crap-perfomances-by-waffling-about-something-else' routine.
Sheeds..you've done it again.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.
