Which is just one of the reasons why it has won 2 more flags than Collingwood since 1991......

The other reasons are:
Bill Sanders CEO and now ChairmanWoodville

Mark Ruccitio 300 game player West Adelaide
Brian Sando and Andrew Potter Club Doctors Norwood

the clubs that will be forced down the private ownership path are those clubs that are struggling in the corporate market, and general market,

example of this is South Syd in the NRL, some how these struggling clubs need to either relocate in to a new market or look for an injection of capital, which may be a private owner

Will not happen, not when clubs established clubs are making money as they are now. As long as there is a SANFL the Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club will not be sold off to private interests. Can't say it won't happen to some of the melbourne clubs but not for another 20 years at the earliest.

The private ownership expereinces of Brisbane, Sydney and West Coast are reasons why private ownership is a long way off (if it will ever get here) on the Australian Sporting cultural and economic landscape.

1980 TM

Totally agree, best way to protect yourself from private ownership

1. Strong Membership base
2. Stay in the black, strong assett base
3. Strong long term corporate support

Lets face it, running a footy club is no different to running a business, we have full time CEO's etc, Clubs like adelaide will always have a strong market share, Melbourne based clubs all compete for a slice of the market and coprporate $$$, this leaves clubs like the Kanga's, Demons and Bulldogs exposed.... especially with the cost of running a club escalating, player wages have increased, standard of facilities management has increase, as we move to fully professional sport the issue of private ownership will be discussed at board meetings of struggling clubs, to be able to compete with the power house clubs

The concern with the Kanga's in the 90's on field they were very successful, off field they did not grow their membership base or corporate share

Fair dinkum SD you know nothing, my club is privately owned as well as one other...as long as my club is playing every weekend Im rapt, off field doesnt concern me, Im not going to follow my club any less beacuse we dont have 50,000 members or poor training facilities (which is a fraud BTW - Im a member of the Power and the Crows just for having a Cat 1 membership of the SANFL)

To be so successful over the past 15 years with all the disadvantages you mentioned makes me very proud. And FWIW those disadvantages arent our fault but I wont go into it here

Dutchy

Their are different levels of private ownership which empowers the club members to have the balance of power or control of the footy club......

When I talk about private ownership Im talking about a person or organisation who takes total control of the club and is controled entirely by the owner not the members

The members at your club still have the controlling power, this may not be the case one day
