Don't disagree with what you are saying, but the final 3-2-1 is done in the umpires room at the end of the game, usually pretty quickly.... well that's my observation anyway. Would have thought AFL umpire rooms would be a hard place to get into for anyone but the umps on the day.

I thought I read on here one day that they do get to peruse the stats. If it was written in safooty, it has to be true.

Sign of the times I guess..... It's always hard to compare era's and comps.... but Robran & Ebert were very worthy Magarey Medal winners, and I reckon the umps recognised that without the aid of stats...... likewise Bobby Skilton and co....

The game is much quicker now, more outstanding players and they are under bigger scrutiny in all facets, vote giving, decision making, rule interpretations, I'd rather use the technology and get the correct result.

I doubt it, highly doubt it.

I wouldn't think so, pretty much from what I have seen (albeit at a far lower level) the umps go into their rooms at the end of the game and as they are cooling down, having a drink etc they discuss best players, and votes. Decisions made before any stats would be available. At this level I would suggest the umps room would be impervious to outsiders bringing that type of information in to them....

its not as if they wouldnt have the afl app on their phones though.

"geez swanny was everywhere tonight, i wonder how many he got in the end"

as if they wouldnt look

That's a fair point B Mac, I hadn't considered that possibility at all.....so while they may be in a secure room, they can access the stats information if they choose to.... We all know stats on there own can be misleading. Surely being in the middle with the players they can see those blokes who have the most influence on the game. Sometimes with less stats, but there actions are "brilliant"... that is the criteria is it not?

Yes they do see stats and one can only hope they dont count the uncontested stats in the backline into account. Does m boyds 30 beat bontmpelis 20 or bob murphys 23?

I think they'd use it to confirm their thoughts not as their bible.

I always take pride in getting my picks right, if I thought the other umpire was being a buffoon and was way off, I'd make sure that I filled out the sheet and seal it straight away.

Fair question, Shiel or Ward maybe? Hopefully Rischitelli for the Suns but God knows really .. I find the Bulldogs tough to pick too, wouldn't be surprised if Murphy gives it a nudge

All 3 of those clubs are hard to pick especially GC and bulldogs. Murphy is a hard one to judge, he is $26 to be bulldogs highest. Not sure how umps will see m wallis.

I had a crack at the $26 for Murphy a coupla weeks ago, just a nibble .. A nice little Richo style sentimental run would be nice.

Could see 4 or 5 Dogs all end up around the similar mark - having such an even spread and missing Liberatore for the year who usually snags their votes makes it tough to pick.

So many options for some bets but most with little value, I think I'll go a trifecta, finding the right 3 and in which order is proving a fair task though. I'm currently looking at Priddis/Fyfe/Hannebury, I'm thinking Danger should be in there though given his previous Brownlow form.

Looking forward to the count and what tally Fyfe gets to after round 14.

Should be interesting to see if anyone can close late. I predict Fyfe will have enough to hang on.

My best bets are:

Deledio to beat Wingard and L Parker at $1.47 Crownbet. This is a GIFT! Free money
Rioil to win the small forwards group at Luxbet $4.50 (to beat Bruest, Betts, Wingard, Walters, D Smith)
West Coast most team votes $3

Also I think Gaff to beat Priddis at WCE at $5.50 is starting to get out to silly odds now. If they mark Priddis a little harder this season then GAff is a huge chance. They have similar stats, just how will the umps see the run and kicking of Gaff v the clearances/tackles/handballs of Priddis?

I think Priddis beats Gaff. That $3 for WC most team votes is super tempting
