Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion

Talk on the national game

Would say this is a load of ****, but..

David King, and now 5AA are reporting (from a reputable source- arent they always!) that Port are set to offer Tex over $1m a season to cross the fence.

The only thing im taking out of this is:

a) Port have the cap space after making a number of key signings, to make a play for a big fish.

b) That big fish will be a key forward :D

If by some divine miracle, Tex became a power player- wouldnt change my opinion that he is as dumb as a stobie pole, but if he helps my team to a flag- who am I to whinge.

No hope of tex going to port. Grew up supporting the crows and hating port. Nothing changed

See the Essendon thread.
His manager has knocked it on the head.

as long as the rumour is still flying around without Tex signing up an extension, the possibility remains

gee as a neutral fan it would be superb radio!!

but given he has just purchased into the Alma and Ricciuto is at the Crows, its hard to see him leaving

Tex won't be moving to Port go god sakes. Its like stupidville with these rumors at the moment. First Swan was retiring, now walker is going to Port. Bloody hell.

When I first heard it I started laughing thinking it would never happen. But the Crows do have 3 big names to sign next year, Walker Sloan and Dangerfield. Their price tags are going to be high and will the crows be able to fit them all in the salary cap. Signing those 3 to long big contracts is going to have some effect on the clubs future. My thinking is they'll sign walker and sloan and Danger will be off to melb.

As opposed to rougheead Mitchell hodge?

Or fyfe pav sandi?
Or pendles swan cloke?

Plenty of clubs have 3 huge names. Having them all come out of contract at the same time isn't ideal but it's hardly the end of the world.

Tex would be the least likely to leave if almost anyone on the crows list imo

Players will generally sign for less if they are flag prospects. Geelong, Sydney, Hawks etc have kept all or most of their stars because of this. Teams like the Crows and many others have to offer up more to keep players. Reckon you guys are 4-5 years minimum away from a flag so you will have to pay overs to keep them all

Shaun Hart has come out and publically denied the rumour- so its a meadia beat up.

Would be the ultimate troll if it happened though. The only man that would be happy with the outcome (besides the PAFC) is Kurt Tippett

Port have only denied it because the crows knocked back the offer of Butcher as a direct swap ... even the extra bottle tops didn't sway them.

I'm pretty sure you can only speak to a player when he is in his last year of his contract. Unless Tex signs in the next couple of weeks i'm sure there will be a few clubs putting a offer on the table.

I don't think Tex will be leave but agree with the three big guns signing I would say the Crows would be most careful with Walker considering his coming back from a knee reco and as yet hasn't set the world on fire since coming back (which isn'tunexpected but may put doubt in the mind)

still 11th on the average goals for the season (taking out 2 dudes that have only played 1 game), and kicked 34 goals for the year. not bad if thats not setting the world on fire.
