Salary dumps

Correct. The money they save on Scully and Patton can be used to retain decent players.

The Patton spot opens up for Jacobs now.

Yep.
GWS need the $600k off their books to keep Cameron, Whitfield etc. They took the low pick on the condition the Hawks pay his existing contract.
Same as Scully last year

Melbourne receives first-round pick (currently No.8 )
FROM: NORTH MELBOURNE

North Melbourne receives a second-round pick (currently No.26), a third-round selection (currently No.50) and a future first-round selection
FROM: MELBOURNE

This has Adelaide / Carlton written all over it.

Who do you see gets the better deal here in this early stage?

Initally I was disappointed we are giving up pick 8, but taking a step back it seems a very good deal overall for us and also indicates how desperate Melbourne are at the moment.

Right now, North, but if Melbourne finish top 8 and next years draft is apparently shallow :

Melbourne get 8

North get 26, 50 and next years 14 in a "weaker" draft.

If North were top 4 or on the cusp of breaking into it, I'd understand, but can North do without a crack at pick 8 right now? Seems odd.

I really can't help but think this is a shit trade.

Port give - 10, Howard and Ryder to St Kilda

Port get - 12 and 18

It's a ******* stinker. Ryder, worth a late 4th rounder at best, so we won't count him as anything. Means we've turned 10 into 12 and Howard into 18.

WT actual?

Better have something lined up for the 2 picks.

Probz off-loading Ryder free's up some space in the cap but yeah, it's like Kenny was giggling in the corner thinking let me do something, let me do something.

Come to think of it, Howard isn't worth a first rounder but I would rather have held on to him.

2 Second rounders which could now be bundled up to get back into the 1st round, but I think this is a deep draft so going back 18 places (but also grabbing Melbournes 2020 1st rounder) is a good trade.

Index indicates it also -

North will be banking on the Demons to repeat their horror 2019 campaign.

Under the draft value index, even if the Demons win the premiership next year (meaning their future pick is worth 948 points), North will be ahead in the trade by 473 points.

Interesting Melbourne currently only have 2 picks in this years draft now, isn't there a minimum number of kids you need to draft?
